Liam "Equilibrium" Wallace

Postby Liam Wallace » Wed Oct 28, 2009 1:51 am

Name: Liam "Equilibrium" Wallace
Age: 19

Powers:
*Perfect sense of balance: whether he is holding a heavy weapon, or is knocked back by an opponent, his balance is automatically adjusted. This makes him virtually impossible to knock down, and capable of performing fighting techniques most wouldn't even consider attempting for fear of injury.

His balance is also unaffected by the effects of alcohol or other narcotics, though any of the other side effects (delayed reaction time, impaired judgment, etc) would still effect him.

Personality: In many ways, Liam is just like his brother Charlie. This may be the source to their intense disdain for each other. A few key differences is that while Charlie had a tendency of being used by other people, Liam prefers convincing others to do his bidding. He's good at saying the right things to get his way, and if that doesn't work he's also good at taking it by force.

He's incredibly loyal to those he deems worthy, which mostly includes his immediate family and a few close friends. But just because he saves his loyalty for a few individuals should not suggest he is shy. He thrives on being around people. In addition to this, he is a very promiscuous aesthetist. He doesn't care if the individual he pursues is male or female, as long as he finds them attractive he will attempt to land them in the bedroom. This is potentially his greatest flaw and has landed him in many awkward situations.

Description: Liam stands at 5'3", weighs 145 pounds, has red hair and blue eyes. He is incredibly athletic, and possesses boyish good looks with muscles that would make almost any girl, or boy, swoon over him. He grooms himself to be everything that would attract anyone he attempts to woo. He wears designer clothes, well-styled and managed hair, and prides himself on always smelling nice.

Background: Much of Liam's life was happy and well adjusted. But despite this, he was a problem child. He enjoyed knowing the wrong kids, many of which could be considered his underlings, and getting in fights for no other reason then that it amused him. His parents always cut him a considerable amount of slack, yet always loved him and supported everything he did. He loved his parents for this, but was always slightly suspicious as to why they were so lenient of his bad boy ways.

His answer came knocking at his door when he was about 17. As it turns out, he had an older brother, and his parents weren't exactly as loving and supportive to him. Infact, they pretty much abandoned his brother long before his birth. This would've been a sad story to Liam, if his brother's first act upon tracking down the family were to punch their father square in the jaw.

Since that day, Liam and Charlie were always at each other’s throats until his brother’s untimely death. Though Liam could care less that Charlie was dead, his father was devastated. His father requested that Liam gather information about what Charlie was up to before he died so his father could learn more about his estranged son. Since he'd have to be in XU to gather the stories his father wanted, he figured getting a degree there wouldn't be all that bad an idea either.

Alright, it's a pretty interesting power. However since it has a very high combat potential I'm wondering what sort of limitations it has. What students would fair well against Liam? What situations is he in some sort of disadvantage?

OK, with this one, I'm going to have to say that I'm kind of uncomfortable with the photographic reflexes thing. I agree that it makes for an awesome ability in comics, but for this RP it tends to be a bit OP, especially considering that there are characters who, in all honesty, COULD have that ability and don't press that fact for exactly that reason. Especially when you consider that with the changed balance bit, copying someone's exact movements wouldn't do him much good in concert with his powers anyway. I like the balance powers, though, and contingent on answering Ten's question, would be willing to give them my stamp of approval.

Also, and this can just be PMed to a mod if this is supposed to be a secret, if there's anything mysterious or deeper going on in Liam's background like there was with Charlie, I'd like to know. Personally, I'd like to see everything be up front like it says in the app, but I know Charlie kind of had a twisted history on XU, so I wanted to check.

Madison: Any telepath would do well against Liam; he's never dealt with them before and has no idea how to make mental defenses. As for the photographic memory, I was thinking it'd take him approximately 5 minutes of continuous fighting, or watching his opponent fight continuously, before he figures out his opponents moves completely and can accurately guess their next move.

As for a fight against him that'd go well... Anyone could easily kick his ass at first as long as they knew they had to end the fight as quickly as possible and never let him see them training or fighting. Then there's the obvious, if he can't see he can't pick up on another's fighting style. So anyone who can impair his vision should be useful against him.

Characters with who use their powers more creatively, particularly free-form shape shifters (Will or Sam for example), would be a great hindrance to him. Basically if an opponent were to keep surprising him with new moves, or limbs, they'd stand a much greater chance at beating him.

Mike: The photographic reflexes I will admit are a bit extraneous and will edit them out. Granted, with the memory he would still be able to pick up fighting techniques faster then your average Joe, but would need to practice to get the form right. As far as mysterious or deeper, Liam's got nothing. Small time street hooligan, frequently shoved people down and took their lunch money, wedgies for fun, smoking in the boys room, and other obligatory not-so bad boy things

Re: the power: and that's really another reason to keep it out, because a lot of people (myself included) would say that just being able to copy the moves without learning them wouldn't do him any good in trying to adapt them, and I really, really, really want to avoid arguements about things happening in-character. So thank you. Edit, and I'll give it a re-read.

*Borderline photographic memory: he is capable of learning an action or an enemies fighting style after 5 minutes of continuous observation.

Borderline or otherwise, that's still photographic reflexes.

For reference.

Taskmaster possesses the ability of photographic memory that ties directly into his muscle memory, giving him an ability he refers to as "photographic reflexes." This ability enables him to watch another person's physical movements and duplicate them without practice.

Ah, I was thinking more along the lines of traditional photographic memory he remembers what an opponent does and can guess their next move from their postures and bodily movements. he would no longer be able to directly connect it to his muscles, a la taskmasters and would have to practice and train to learn anyones moves.

BUt if the photographic is to much then it is gone
