M Industries Open House

It was early in the afternoon and although the event hadn't officially started yet, people were milling about in the reception area of the towering, newly built skyscraper for M Industries. There was a valet service in the parking lot and the reception area was filled with snacks for it's distinguished guests.

Security was tight but friendly. It seemed that just about everyone that showed up was welcome. Several people without invitations were even let in as long as they provided proper identification and passed a quick security check.

The reception was taking place in the large grounds outside of the building. Beautifully kept and arranged, the landscaping on the grounds was exquisite, with nothing out of place. In fact, the entire area seemed absolutely perfect.

((Open thread pretty much, people with invitations will be treated a lot more nicely then people that just showed up out of curiosity, but everyone will be let in.))

A woman with a dark complexion and long black hair approached the two, she was dressed very professionally and smiled briefly at them.

"Mr. Hino. Ms. Morita," the woman greets them, "I'm Susan Quincy, vice president of Public Relations here at M Industries. It's a pleasure to meet you both."

"I'd like to welcome you both to our gathering," Ms. Quincy says with a pleasant smile, "If there's anything you need, feel free to ask our service staff."

Ms. Quincy glances over at an older man signaling her, "I have to go take care of some business, but I hope we get the chance to talk more. Thanks for attending our little get together."

From the other attendees, a Japanese man in a suit waves the pair over with a smile.

"There he is, come on."

John seemed to stand straighter in his father's presence.

Stan entered the grounds, wearing a dark suit and tie.

Smiling and nodding to the attendant holding the gate open, he held Amanda's hand.

"Shall we go mingle?" Amanda asked, smiling at him. She was wearing a chocolate brown cocktail dress, shot through with subtle gold threads, that set off her scales to good effect.

Smiling himself, he made his way into the crowd holding Amanda's arm, looking for other familiar faces and colleagues.

"You look beautiful."

An older man with graying hair approaches Stan, smiling at him, "Dr. Bowen! I was hoping to see you here when I read you were in the companies backyard. And I see you brought a lovely friend."

Stan would recognize the man as a prominent researcher into botanical sciences. The man smiled widely at Amanda, "Nathan McBride, at your service, ma'am."

Nathan shakes her hand gently, "I have to say, I missed my calling. My guidance counselor told me all the woman went for botanists, but apparently superheroing is where the real beauties are."

Stan grinned, patting his shoulder.

"Nathan! Good to see you again, it's been a little while."

Smiling, he looked around the grounds.

"Quite a party you have going on."

"Thank you." Amanda said, blushing a little at the compliment "But it was really Stan's academic work that got me interested. You should have gone into Mutant Studies."

Nathan chuckles, "Back when I was growing up, the only studying they did on mutants wasn't something any gentleman wanted to be a part of."

"It's only just started, Stan," Nathan says with an enthusiastic smile, "The things they have us doing here..."

Nathan shakes his head, "Gonna change the world. You should see about getting out of academia and getting a job with us, Stan. Leave the snot nosed kids behind and start doing real research again."

"I'm an academic through and through, I'm afraid. Even when I was wearing a cape, I was teaching and instructing. I'm happy where I am. But this.."

Stan looked at the very impressive facilities, even only from the outside.

"I'll admit I'm very excited. Care to give us a quick hint as to what we'll be seeing tonight?"

Nathan shakes his head, "I don't want to ruin the surprise. We've got a little demonstration planned though. Our president is more of the 'shock and awe' type then lining up charts and graphs."

"Well, private industry needs that sort of thing to get investments, of course. Well, whatever it is, we'll both be waiting with baited breath."

Nathan chuckles, "Very little is classified here, m'dear. I'm doing the same thing I was doing twenty years ago. Trying to solve world hunger."

"But now I actually have the funding and technology that I just might make it happen," Nathan says, toasting his champagne glass to the skyscraper, "Technically, I head up the Botanical Department, but most of the people working here are being paid to pursue their passions."

Nathan laughs, "I was as amazed as you were. Things will probably change here quickly once we get some investors on board, but for now they just want to see what we can do."

A short young man in a suit walked up to Nathan, trying to get his attention. Nathan glances at him and shrugs at Stan and Amanda.

"Work calls," Nathan says with a mock look of world weariness, "It was a pleasure talking with you both. I hope you enjoy our demonstration."
