Night on the town (sept 4)

After leaving their ride in a car park, there was only a few minute's walk before Ryan and Anita reached The Shochu Lounge, a little Japanese place that (though pricey) had come recommended when he was looking for places for them to go that day.

"And this would be it," he said, indicating the door down to the basement restaurant.

"Oooh fancy. I'm guessin they have more than teriyaki here." Anita goes up on her tiptoes to give Ryan a kiss on the cheek. "Thanks fer takin' me out, by the way."

"My pleasure entirely," Ryan said, giving her a little squeeze as they descended the stairs, Ryan walking behind her because, well, wings, holding the door for her as they entered.

Anita walks in and lets Ryan do the manly thing and talk to the Maitre'd. She admires the place, looking around and using her power to scope it too.

They were seated in short order, at a place a bit off to the side at Ryan's request. The tables were low, and they sat on the floor around it, Ryan tucking his wings around him in a practiced position. "So now we get to see how well we can decipher Japanese entrees," Ryan joked as they settled in.

Anita sits, kneeling in a surprisingly correct position. "As long as the waitress speaks English, I'm good ta go."

The waitress, not surprisingly, did speak English, and took their drink orders shortly, leaving them to mull over what they wanted to eat. Ryan finally decided on a dish that included the word 'beef' and contained the fewest things he didn't understand in the description, and sat waiting, looking rather happy, as they waited to place their orders.

Anita orders something else with beef. "It says the vegetables are tempura, that's just a fancy way of sayin' they're deep-fried, right? I had tempura... uh, I don't remember what it was, once, and it was tasty as heck."

"I... think so," Ryan said, frowning. Then he chuckled, leaning forward conspiratorially. "Well, whatever it is we get, we pretend that it's exactly what we intended to order. Especially if we're way off."

"They're changing all the time," he admitted. "Tentatively? I'm going to finish my degree and trying use mutant rights lobby groups to jump into politics. I don't know how far I'll go, or how far I want to go yet, to be completely honest. Besides... I can't get myself too busy with that, or I won't have time for saving the world," he finished, grinning. "Have to live up to the family name, after all."

"What about you? Any plans for what to do while you're kicking ass and taking names?"

"That's pretty much the whole plan. Get on a permenant X-Team, and hit badguys until I run out of em."

Ryan chuckled. "It's a good plan to have," he said. "I keep wondering sometimes if I should just drop the politics idea so I don't have to turn into one of the soulless bastards we all love to hate."

He fixed her with a fake-serious look. "And you're not allowed to flunk out. Even if I have to tie you down and make you study."

Anita grins. "No way, remember, I get on the team first. Then it doesn't matter how school goes. I'll still be around doin' team stuff, though I guess the pro-X-Teams travel a ton, which is awesome."

Ryan grinned at that. "Save the world and see the world! Yeah, I know, I feel kind of bad hoping that there'll be emergencies somewhere, but there's a lot of places I'd love to see."

"I figure I'll see most of it eventually. So yeah, it's all good either way." Anita thanks the waitress as the drinks arrive, and sips hers. "Mmm, tasty. So whatcha wanna do in politics? Run fer office, or work behind the scenes?"

"You know, I'm really not sure," Ryan admitted. "I don't think I want to run for office... I doubt I'd be able to get elected anyway. The world isn't ready for many mutant politicians. I don't know if I want to be the front man for a group, either. I mean... come on, can you see me going long without creating a scandal?" he asked, grinning.

Ryan considered this. "Yeah, now that you mention it, my scandals would probably look a lot tamer than theirs are. Huh. Still, who really wants their life picked apart like that all the time, when you can just as easily push someone else in front of you to give the speeches and get picked apart?"

Ryan smirked. "Part of me wants to say the same. It's a little... nerve wracking knowing that you're the one who's going to take the blame for ideas that turn out to be bad or crazy teammates who decide they're going to try to get themselves shot at," he said, winking at her.

"Thats fer later." Anita's eyes twinkle. She eats her meal carefully, not good with the chopsticks but having used them before... probably once. "Mmm, this is really good."

"You did extremely well," Ryan said. "I don't know whether 'unfortunately' is the right word to use, but it wasn't really a mission that gave us much of a chance to shine. But you took what you could do, you did everything you could with it without even needing to be instructed, and you kicked ass. I couldn't have asked for more." He took another bite, then added, a bit hesitantly. "How about me? I wasn't too overbearing, was I?"

Ryan looked a little relieved. "Good... You never know at the time if you're not being hard enough, or if you're being too much of a hardass..." He shook his head. "I admit, I kind of miss the days that I'd just fly in there and start blasting the assholes and worry about the consequences later."
