Patrick Fitzroy

Postby Patrick Fitzroy » Wed Mar 04, 2009 11:40 pm

Name: Patrick Fitzroy

Age: 17

Power: Fitzroy is a Ghost in the machine. He is able to convert his physical self into pure data (effectively becoming intangible) and to posess data systems. This allows him to inhabit and control a laptop, a tlevision, a security system etc. He is able to move freely through phone systems and control cell phones. He spends his free time cruising through the internet. He is able to completely bypass security within a system.

Personality: Fitzroy is very interested in people. He will often take a second to absorb all relevant data on a person upon meeting them. He's still working on social graces like privacy (a concept which confuses him). His intellect is dizzying, often coming to conclusions about things that seem counter-intuitive to others.

Description: Fitzroy is not very physically imposing. Measuring a mere 5'6 and weighing only 105 pounds he has often been the butt of other kid's jokes. His thin mousy hair and tendancy to stammer a bit when nervous didn't help much either.

Bio: Fitzroy was a foundling left at an orphanage with a note that indicated his young mother couldn't look after him, and his name. His early schooling was spent dodging abuse from peers and learning everything he could about everything. He absorbed whole databases, mastered computer programming at an early age, and learned about just about everything except how to be comfortable around people. He still prefers watching through the lenses of security cameras to actually striking up a conversation. He hopes that being at Xavier's with other special abilities will help him with his shyness.

'Able to bypass security in a system' is a little broad. After all, this is a universe with AI, and systems designed by technopaths like Binary.

But given that he will be limited when he comes up against something created by someone really good, I see this essentialy as an astral-projecting character who can only project into electronics, and as a bonus for that detriment, can control the electronics.

Controlling an AI would be much like a psychic tussle for a pair of Telepaths.

Do you see him as being able to remain intangible for unlimited amounts of time? If a virus, AI, or Technopath attacked him in data form, what would be the effects?

How do psychics interact with him when he's possessing a machine, if at all?

Rather than astral projection exactly (I think Binary does that trick quite neatly) I had envisiined him as a sort of data elemental. But that's basically just semantics I imagine.

Up against A.I. I see it as a bit if a battle of wills. However, if he needs to get the job done he can be pretty persuasive. Treat it as dominate for machine intelligences. Something like a car wash robot (rudimentry A.I.) Wouldn't stand a chance, most system A.I. (Like the ones that control high level security systems) treat him as a truted user. Advanced A.I. (Nimrod, or the A.I. Present in Cyber's head) would need to be overcome. Those would be taxing and limited in duration.
Becoming intangible would basically be tied to data flow. Very difficult to do in an area with no signal in the air (cell phones, wi-fi etc) but a cake walk in built up urban areas where people can't get off their Crackberries. He would be vulnerable to electic attacks or mental attacks while in this form, but essentially immune to physical attacks. It would allow him to move anywhere within the data flow at the speed of trhe data (ugh, dial-up) but essentially this is more a defence/movement power as he largely is not a combat character (at least until he takes over a Sentinel or some such).duration largely based on saturation of the signal.
Versus viruses. He might be vulnerable to something new and nasty, but he tends to keep innoculated pretty heavily.
Versus Psychics, they would have to combat him with any associated penalties expected of fighting an A.I. With their powers.

Hmmm, you might want to be able to move a little faster than the speed of the data. Otherwise, the amount of data that would be required to describe a human in both body and psyche would overwhelm even the broadband connections of 2021.

Otherwise I think this looks good.

Point taken, didn't want to overdo it.
Faster then: speed of thought, light, what do you think?

Well electrical impulses don't pass through the components at the speed of light, so let's limit it to the speed of a particular network for normal data transmission. Thus he's still limited by the speed of his connection but doesn't have to pass himself as data. His astral form piggybacks on the data stream already present.
