Sara McDohl

Postby Sara McDohl » Mon Jun 29, 2009 9:19 pm

Name: Sara Riviera Wingates McDohl

Age: 20

Birthday: May 9th, 2001

Power:

Sara has the power to read and project thoughts, and release her astral form. Her major speciality, however, is that she can manipulate the thoughts of others at will. Not exactly dominating them into being her mind-slaves, but more like hypnosis..she can't make them do something that they aren't already predisposed to do.

Personality:

Sara's personality is very shy and timid on the outside, with only a few spouts of excitable, and eccentric behavior, but on the inside she is a diabolical and mischivious person. She enjoys reading, and is much of a loner. People make her nervous, especially boys. In her spare time, she enjoys practicing her gifts.

Description:

Sara is about 5'6", weighing in around 130 lbs. She is of average build with short brown hair, and emerald green eyes. She has a pair of black framed glasses resting over her eyes, and small gold hoop earrings. On a casual day she wears a black jean jacket with matching skirt, as well as a dark pink blouse. She wears a black leather watch on her right hand wrist, and a black leather belt around her waist. The glasses she wears are not meant to improve her vision, they are actually there for protection seeing as she is blind in her right eye.

Background:

Sara is one of two of the middle children to the McDohl family, she has two sisters and one brother. Their names are Lieza, Ellie, and Julian. Her father's name is Alen, and her mother's name is Stephanie. Out of her family only herself, her mother, and her older sister are mutants. Her mother is a strong telepath like herself, while her sister Lieza has powers over water and ice. Early in her childhood she started to develop her powers to read people's minds, it wasn't much at first, but in time she learned to twist it into a form of hypnosis. Her mother was very happy to help her learn to control her 'gifts' as she called them. In reality, she felt they were more of powers, to get what she wants. It all really started when she was in elementry school. She liked to read, and was always getting pretty decent grades. Of course, children can be so cruel to one another, and one thing lead to another throughout the years. She never wanted to hurt anyone at first, but now revenge is one of the only things on her mind. She tends to mask it with her outer personality of being the timid little bookworm, but any powerful telepath could sense something was amiss. She began using her hypnotic powers on people to get the satisfaction she was looking for from the pain of her childhood.

OK, my two cents.

First of all, I like the powerset. If you could, though, just ot keep people from getting confused, word it as psychic suggestion or something like that instead of control?

Also, why is she blind in her one eye?

I do not remember using the word control...but that is fine, as for her blind eye...thats cause I wanted her to be handicapped. I'm blind in my right eye in real life. so why not. ^^

*shrug* sounds good enough for me, I just didn't know if there was an accident that you didn't elaborate on.

The power and backstory look simple enough. I would like to make a few comments about reservations/cautions though. First off, hypnotic suggestion powers can be very cool but it's always a challenge to use them in casual scenes; most players do not like having control of their characters taken away. Given the overall description of her past, it seems likely that she will start using her ability on other students, and that has a very real potential to end poorly. It's not a deal breaker, but I do want to be certain you are aware of the possible consequences.

Secondly, personality-wise, shy and timid can be very hard to play out in a chat which is mainly social interactions. Again, I'm not going to say that you can't make a shy character, but I do want you to realize that the vast majority of the scenes, especially to begin, will revolve around meeting new people and socializing. If you're shy to the point of unresponsiveness most people will give up trying to engage with your character, so watch that line and try not to cross it.

As long as you are aware of these factors, I'll give you the second approval.
