Misty

Name: Misty (Codename: ??)
Age: 17

Power: Misty is a a feral mutant with greatly enhanced agility, balance, speed, and exceptional strength. She can run faster than most humans on all fours, and her talon-like nails enable her to climb many surfaces normal people have trouble with. Her eyes have many extra light receptors, giving her excellent night vision...and give her vertically slitted eyes the glowing appearance of a cats. Her large, cat-like ears are exceptionally sensitive, five times human ability. She has a much sharper sense of smell than humans, able to track recent trails when nessecary. Her body is covered with short fur that keeps her warm on cold nights. Her body is as nubile as a contortionist's. Her tail enables extra balance as she runs and functions as a mood ring.

Her heightened senses are not able to be turned off, so she is vulnerable to particularly loud noises, extremely high pitched sound, foul odors, and bright lights.

In addition, Misty has developed an unexpected ability in the past two years. Despite her still ADD mind, she has suddenly and inexplicably developed a talent for mathematics. She has become, in effect, a lightning calculator. Unfortunately she has very little control over it. She can be struggling with basic algebra one moment, then suddenly solve a complex equation about black holes the next. Worse, her calculative ability appears entirely intuitive. She can spit out the answers but has difficulty explaining how she got it. Hence her application to the university.

Personality: As a feral Misty is impulsive and high-strung, and has a difficult time focusing her attention on anything that doesn't interest her--very much like ADD. Like real cats, she is quite independent and territorial, regarding certain things, locations, even favorite people as "hers". If she takes a shine to someone she will be fiercely loyal and protective of them...though such affection won't stop her from hogging all the food or demanding attention if she gets bored. Naturally she is much more physically oriented than mentally, though she is hardly stupid. She is primarily nocturnal by instinct, but is able to adapt to a day schedule. Misty's been a little spoiled by the attention Stacie was able to give her, but the old woman had also instilled a genuine kindness into her. She is occassionally subject to fits of frantic energy, unable to keep still and increasingly aggressive. These fits are followed by periods of drowsiness that usually can only be shaken off with a good nap.

Description: Misty is a young girl of approximately seventeen years of age, lithe and agile. She is covered with a thick layer of short fur colored much like a classic Tortiseshell (black with orange and brown patches all over her), has a long cat-like tail, large, sharp ears, and looks as though she has yet to grow into her huge, green eyes--eyes with vertical slits for pupils. She has a muzzle like a cats, complete with whiskers. Her hands and feet are slightly larger than normal, and her nails are longer, stronger, and very sharp...she has an annoying habit of sharpening them in the manner of a cat as well. She is most comfortable in a kind of half-crouch, though she can straighten herself up if she must. Below her thick mane of hair on her neck is a peculiar barcode the nature of which remains unknown.

She loves stuffed animals and really dislikes sudden noises or being startled. Unlike the angst suffered by most young mutants with obvious mutations, Misty is quite proud of her appearance and not above showing off.

Background: Misty was found as a baby on the doorstep of a small old woman named Stacie Derencin in Klickitat, Washington. Stacie was something of a hermit, having suffered a stroke that had damaged her speech and mobility. She was certainly curious about the bar code tattooed on the back of the little baby's neck, but was charmed by the strange-looking baby. Stacie named the little girl "Misty", after a favorite cat in her youth.

Misty, as a feral, was sometimes something of a trial for Stacie, but the little girl had a good heart and responded eagerly to the old woman's attention. Unfortunately, the old woman's stilted speech ability led to Misty having a rather limited vocabulary...though she understood others clearly, she usually fell back on the child-like, third-person speech she had learned from Stacie.

Stacie usually kept Misty out of sight, especially when anti-mutant hysteria began to heat up. At night, though, Misty would often sneak out into the nearby town and explore the dark streets and alleys. Though curious and energetic, Misty also became quite shy as a result of an unfortunate encounter with a fearful mob during one of her nighttime excursions. Though Misty escaped with her life, she lost a great deal of her trust in non-mutants.

As anti-mutant feelings became more pronounced in the small town, Stacie began to talk about sending Misty to another place...a new home. Something called the Xavier Insitiute. She had even begun to make arrangements for travel for herself and the cat-girl when a second stroke struck her. Stacie died quickly, leaving Misty alone and frightened...with only a vague idea of a place a very long way from home.

She made her way across country at night, avoiding people unless absolutely nessecary, hiding at all other times and raiding occassional kitchens for sustenance...though not above an occassional hunt for live animals as her feral instincts sometimes demanded. She was found by X-Corp midway through her trip, and subsequently placed as a dependent of the organization in their foster program.

As a result of her mathematical talent, it was eventually decided that Misty be taken to a place where she could develop that aspect of her ability. Misty was entrolled in the London University as an on-campus student. The relevant staff have already been informed of Misty's flighty and child-like personality, and it has been suggested that she recieve a bit of extra supervision. This advice appears to be a precaution to protect both Misty and those around her.

Some kind of error in the mailing system I guess. I didn't get any notice of approval so I didn't know.
