Once everyone is in place, Lumis continues.
"This is your first X-Team mission, and like all X-Team missions it is a vital one. There will not be any make-work missions, no milk runs, nothing like that. There will be occasional public relations event, but we will not be calling those missions. As seriously as we take these missions, I'm glad to see that they are also being taken seriously by you. I have not seen complaining, or people trying to weasel out of difficulty, and I am proud of you for this."
"You earn the right to wear the uniforms on this table simply by standing up, and saying 'I will defend the helpless'. It sounds like an easy thing to say, but there are many, many people in this world who cannot do what everyone here has done. You will put yourselves at risk so that other people will not suffer, and we will give you the tools to manage that risk so that you have to suffer as little as possible, and can help the most people."
"Today's mission is split into several parts, each sub-mission integrates into a larger whole. The problem at hand is this. Someone is trying to start a riot in Mutant Town, and on this campus. We will not let them. You, working in your teams, will defuse the situation, protect the innocents in Mutant Town, and provide us with the evidence we need to turn public opinion against our enemy."
"Because the program is so new, and most of you have this as your first X-Team experience, I and the other faculty will be providing significant input on your goals, methods, and strategies. No one team will have jurisdiction over another. As you become more experienced, comfortable in your teams, we will impose less restrictions on you. My personal goal is to be able to call a team leader into my office, present him or her with a problem, and send that person away to gather their team and deal with it. We will always remain on hand for advice, but we will give you the tools to become true heroes, people who can go in to an impossible situation and resolve it in the best possible way."
"During this mission, I will be the primary commander for all three teams. In general I will leave the team leaders to make their own decisions, but I will be feeding you intel, and occasionally giving directions. Because we have three teams, and I may be engaged in helping one of them when another calls, you may find that you reach my secretary when you contact me." Lumis indicates the beautiful blonde woman standing off to the side.
"Her name is Denise, and she would prefer that you refer to her that way in informal situations. When making mission-communication, however, please refer to her as Network, which is her code name. She will identify herself as such. I will relay instructions through her to some of you, and give you as much personal attention as I can. Though Denise is not a member of the actual X-Team program, I expect you all to treat her with the respect her position as my communications director requires."
"I will be giving specific instructions to each group, and a more detailed briefing on the situation in a moment, but for now, Binary has a few things to say about equipment and requisitions, while we're on the subject of general team issues."
Lumis steps aside and lets Binary have the floor.
