Re: X-Team Organizing and Equipping

Postby Domanic Taylor » Sat Feb 28, 2009 4:56 pm

Once everyone is in place, Lumis continues.

"This is your first X-Team mission, and like all X-Team missions it is a vital one. There will not be any make-work missions, no milk runs, nothing like that. There will be occasional public relations event, but we will not be calling those missions. As seriously as we take these missions, I'm glad to see that they are also being taken seriously by you. I have not seen complaining, or people trying to weasel out of difficulty, and I am proud of you for this."

"You earn the right to wear the uniforms on this table simply by standing up, and saying 'I will defend the helpless'. It sounds like an easy thing to say, but there are many, many people in this world who cannot do what everyone here has done. You will put yourselves at risk so that other people will not suffer, and we will give you the tools to manage that risk so that you have to suffer as little as possible, and can help the most people."

"Today's mission is split into several parts, each sub-mission integrates into a larger whole. The problem at hand is this. Someone is trying to start a riot in Mutant Town, and on this campus. We will not let them. You, working in your teams, will defuse the situation, protect the innocents in Mutant Town, and provide us with the evidence we need to turn public opinion against our enemy."

"Because the program is so new, and most of you have this as your first X-Team experience, I and the other faculty will be providing significant input on your goals, methods, and strategies. No one team will have jurisdiction over another. As you become more experienced, comfortable in your teams, we will impose less restrictions on you. My personal goal is to be able to call a team leader into my office, present him or her with a problem, and send that person away to gather their team and deal with it. We will always remain on hand for advice, but we will give you the tools to become true heroes, people who can go in to an impossible situation and resolve it in the best possible way."

"During this mission, I will be the primary commander for all three teams. In general I will leave the team leaders to make their own decisions, but I will be feeding you intel, and occasionally giving directions. Because we have three teams, and I may be engaged in helping one of them when another calls, you may find that you reach my secretary when you contact me." Lumis indicates the beautiful blonde woman standing off to the side.

"Her name is Denise, and she would prefer that you refer to her that way in informal situations. When making mission-communication, however, please refer to her as Network, which is her code name. She will identify herself as such. I will relay instructions through her to some of you, and give you as much personal attention as I can. Though Denise is not a member of the actual X-Team program, I expect you all to treat her with the respect her position as my communications director requires."

"I will be giving specific instructions to each group, and a more detailed briefing on the situation in a moment, but for now, Binary has a few things to say about equipment and requisitions, while we're on the subject of general team issues."

Lumis steps aside and lets Binary have the floor.

Re: X-Team Organizing and Equipping

Postby Barbara Chronopolis » Sat Feb 28, 2009 5:21 pm

"Greetings everyone. As you should all know by now, I am Binary, and I am mainly responsible for the University's technology infrastructure. I am also responsible for the equipment and transportation for the X-Teams. I suspect you are all excited, so I will try to keep the boring parts brief," she smiles faintly before continuing.

"As members of a student X-Team, you will eventually have access to a range of technology otherwise difficult or even impossible to find elsewhere on Earth. However, no tool is better than the being that wields it. First and foremost, learn to rely on your mind, your body, your powers, and most importantly, your team. Any equipment should be a tool to add to the mix, not a crutch to rely on."

"Standard mission packages will include essential equipment; we're not going to send you under the Thames without some way for air-breathers to function," she smiles thinly. "Additional equipment requests will be judged based on the mission parameters and team profile. Some requests will be approved, some will require justification, and some will simply be denied. While we do have impressive resources, the forces arrayed against us are equally impressive, and even now a significant amount of our attention is already committed elsewhere in the world."

"Many items will require a certain level of certification before they will be issued, particularly weapons and vehicles. Certification can be obtained by conducting the appropriate Danger Room courses and in some cases passing a field examination conducted by one of the staff. If you have difficulty loading the appropriate program, consult with any of the available instructors."

"Additionally, I am happy to coordinate with individuals who have unique requirements. For example, our stock communication pieces are designed for a roughly humanoid ear, but special versions are available for ophidian and lizard anatomies which lack external ears entirely or shapeshifters who take on different forms. Some examples of those are arrayed on the table as appropriate by teams. If your mutation gives you a particular vulnerability that will inhibit your ability to function, such as the classic example of Cyclops, I will likewise be available to create a system to address those issues."

With that, she steps back and gives the floor back to Lumis.

"Uhm... yes. Will already told me that the suits accomodate shapeshifting, but I was wondering how they affect powers that need physical contact with something."

"You can always choose to forgo wearing the gloves if you need physical contact with something. In a case where you need to have more than just your hands in contact with something, there are special suits that can be designed to break open and reseal under certain conditions. Once you learn to use them it can be second nature to create an opening and get the touch that you need."

Re: X-Team Organizing and Equipping

Postby Domanic Taylor » Sat Feb 28, 2009 6:03 pm

"Alright, moving on. Team 1 is going to be the mobile team in Mutant Town. You'll move through the district getting intel from myself or Network on where problems might be occuring. Also, Seraph, you'll want to be in the sky as much as you can to keep an eye out on things. You are to intercept hostiles and keep an eye on them, but not assault them unless they attack you first. If possible you can herd them away from places with lots of locals, but don't initiate a fight to do that."

"The idea is to make your team a big target, to split up and distract the enemy forces. If the enemy starts a fight, you are to move to take care of it. You'll back up team 2 if something big goes down at their location."

"Team 2, you are going to be guarding Genosha Memorial park for the most part. The enemy has shown interest in it, and I'm sure something will be happening there. If you see a disturbance nearby, by all means, move to take care of it. Constantine, you should be in-flight most of the time in order to watch the nearby area.

Team 2, you will be responsible for taking care of anyone who's wounded, either on our teams or among the locals, so casualties will be brought to your area. I expect you to save the lives of any attackers who have been very badly injured, but if all an attacker has is a minor injury you don't have to treat them. I expect zero deaths to come out of this mission."

"Team 3, you will deploy to the Hackney borough, where the thugs have been hired from. All we can tell you is that the men going to mutant town have definently been paid, and that the man who hired them is cautious and has a thick Irish accent. If your leads in Hackney dry up, you can move on to the Chelsea borough, where Richard Flint has a residence. You'll be supplied with his address. Richard Flint is the one who has been directing the protesters. I suggest caution in investigating his house, as there is a lot of security there. The police and government will take a dim view of you breaking and entering unless you find something really good in there."

Merle picks his up his equipment. He's wearing a coal t-shirt under his normal track jacket top.

He doesn't have any questions, but follows the team leader obediently. He thought about his friends at Bromley...they were probably buying textbooks.

That made him laugh, a little, but he stifled it.
"No questions, Sir." He responds if asked specifically on his thoughts.
He was glad that his trip into Hackney had been useful for the team.

Sara hurries off, eager to try out 'shifting-resistant' clothing.
After a few minutes she comes back, grinning from ear to ear as she turns back and forth from formless blob of stone and back to normal between steps, giddy about not shredding her clothes in the process. Suddenly remembering the more serious siuation she's in after a few steps she straightens up and stays normal as she walks back to her team-members and throws a grin at Will as she passes him.

Juma makes his way out of the men's change room, rolling his shoulders inside the new uniform. As with Sarah, he quickly puts it through the paces with a few shifts; he bulks up a little with a shift to a cat/human hybrid, then gains more mass as his skin goes rough and his features streamline into a shark/human hybrid. Apparently satisfied, he ripples back to his normal build, apparently also one of the barefoot crowd.
