"A couple years ago, I was in a car wreck with a friend. They were hurt bad, but I was just scared about getting caught, so I ran away. Just left 'em there."

"It was just... The guy I was hanging out with was pretty messed up and we got drunk one night. We talked a bunch and after I went home I was just kinda standing in the kitchen and then everything kinda goes sideways and I don't really remember. Except the next day I heard my friend was in the hospital cause he tried to cut his wrists with a knife in his kitchen. So that was pretty retarded. Kept happening for a while too. I'd wake up and I'd sleepwalked into the kitchen."

"I'm sorry," she says finally.

"I'm so tired and angry and -- I don't know. I forget that I'm not the only one that has it hard, I guess," Winn says. For a moment, Winn is relaxed and Jennifer can see how exhausted the girl looks. "I've been a real bitch to you for no reason and...I'm sorry about that, alright? You didn't deserve it."
