Sept. 4th: Eye Spy

The Estate's meticulously kept gardens, including a hedgemaze that students have occasionally described as "sadistic" and a sizeable rose garden. Benches in shaded spots are plentiful, and the gardens are popular to study in on pleasant days.

"Unless... You're the one with anger issues and an alcohol problem. Heeere's Winny!" she laughs way too much at her dumb joke.

Jennifer snickers and closes her eyes, trying to concentrate on... something. The way out, right! Maybe there's someone nearby who knows. Only Winn around though. Maybe Winn knows! she reasons her way into poking at Winn's mind and broadcasting her thoughts to her in the process. Wait... No she's stuck in here with me, why would she know? Maybe she's lieing and she does know! Wait no she was running in here like a panicked ferret when she tackled me...

"Och, I'm bad at this." she continues snickering.

"Wait! You totally are lieing, you just don't realize it!" something occurs to her. "You walked in here so in theory the way out's in your dumb brain, even if you didn't pay attention at the time. I can't look at my own brain so I gotta go through yours."

"Yeah, yeah." she says and goes back to focusing on Winn's mind. She's a tiny bit unfocused thanks to being high but it also kind of helps with just sort of settling into Winn's thoughts like they were a fluffy cloud.

Winn's mind was kind of a melancholy place. It felt very grey (with some angry red bits that probably were best left alone). There was also a lot of "junk", for a lack of a better term. Memories and feelings left strewn about wherever, random thoughts floating through the ether, and just a general mess all around.

As Jennifer focused, things became darker and darker. It wasn't long before she was standing in a field of complete and total darkness.

Then a pair of glowing yellow eyes opened in front of Jennifer. They stared at her and she would get the distinct feeling that something was evaluating her.

Darkness formed into the dim outline of a human form and the person with glowing yellow eyes slowly raises a finger to their lips.

The person disappears from view and then reappears behind Jennifer, standing unsettlingly close to her. It begins to wrap its arms around her waist for a gentle hug.

The person has no face, but Jennifer can feel an amused smile emanating from them. As light begins to creep into the darkness, the person fades away. First their shadowy outline disappears, followed by their glowing eyes.

When they're completely gone, Jennifer is standing in Winn's memory, right outside of the entrance.

As she stepped into the maze she was greeted by an awful din. It sounded like an out of tune orchaestra had been thrown down the stairs and it was loud enough to feel in your (figurative and telepathic) bones.

Standing on top of one of the hedges was Winn. Her eyes were glowing yellow and she didn't look happy.

The Other-Winn only stared at Jennifer and made no move to stop her as she traced Winn's path through the maze. However, she was always in sight. Always watching.

There was a brief silence. Then the Other-Winn began to crack like a glass figurine, energy burning through the cracks.

Jennifer reaches where Winn tackled her shortly, the Other-Winn appearing between her and the hedge Winn jumped through, having become little more than a fire in the vague shape of Winn.

The figure disappeared, leaving Jennifer alone in the hedge maze.

Apparently, Jennifer had caught up to the present.

"Well, yeah," Winn agrees. "Usually, it's an tulpa or thoughtform that was created by accident. A manifestation of a repressed shadow-self. It's pretty common with celebrities. The constant separation of self makes it easy for them to accidentally create a tulpa like that. Especially if they're under stress."

"I don't have one though. Well, I mean, not that I know of."
