Power Training: New semester

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

She straightened her suit a bit, giving a little bit of a wiggle. With a bit of a colorful flash, her wings manifested. Peeking over the edge of the cliff, she gives a low whistle.

Can I place bets?
I'm going to prove you wrong.
Keep telling yourself that.

With a deep breath she just...stepped off the edge.

Miranda walked over to her section of the Danger Room and sat down in a grassy area opposite a female figure. The figure spread a row of strange cards face-down between them and then began, apparently randomly, reaching to flip over the cards while Miranda's hands moved to stop her. Miranda sighed as the simulation recorded several failures when she fell for feints, but she kept going.

Kay activates her program and runs off into the area that's now a sandy beach. She takes a running jump and dives into the waves with barely a splash.

Jennifer reads through her assignments and frowns at the 'Telepathy: Special Tutoring' line before slinking off into her section of the room that's essentially a glorified faucet with a beaker underneath it. She halfheartedly summons up a forcefield that lasts for all of a second before dispersing and letting water fill the beaker. Before to long the beaker is full and the whole thing beeps at her angrily and resets.

Graham's program loaded a small patch of forest and he sighed before shifting into a half ton of bull Elk. He vanished into the treeline as wolves howled within.

Maya's program was a series of grates that she was supposed to try shifting through. Unfortunately, she was having difficulty shifting since everyone around her seemed to be in some sort of imminent danger.

Deep breath. They're fine. They wouldn't let anyone get hurt.

Murphy was set on a platform surrounded by a moat. Walls came at her, attempting to knock her off unless she phased through them.

"Cheese and crackers!" Murphy squeaked as her arm got stuck in a wall and she ended up falling into the water. Again.

Her flying wasn't working out too well, and she was likely freaking out at this point. The fact that the pit was a bottomless pit is what was freaking her out the most. Her panicked yelps echoed a bit as she struggles to get a hold of herself again, wings flapping rapidly. "NOT STELLAR. NOT AT ALL."

Hahahahaha! Bet you don't want to know what's down there. I'll let you in on a secret. I know!

Winn's test was simple: a display showing how much energy she was emitting. Her goal was to get the number to go up.

"This is fucking stupid," Winn grumbles.

Gary's training consisted of trying to perform one of his boosts while running without breaking his stride. He clearly wasn't very good at this stumbling around and even once falling on this face.

I hope no one saw that.

Blaine's room featured a work bench, a pack of bubble gum, some rubber bands, a selection of cogs and gears, and some triple A batteries as a starting point. A chalkboard lit up one 'wall'

Code: Select all
GIVEN: A human being of 60kg, preparing to jump off of a four-story building.
CREATE: A device to allow the jump to be completed without significant injury

Blaine scratched his head, and picked up the some of the rubber bands. "Hrmmmmmm..."

Meanwhile, Barbara kind of sat in front of HER simulation, which was just essentially a punching bag attached to a forcemeter. A bowl of olives sat next to her.

"This room--and both Ryan and I--wouldn't let you hurt yourself or anyone else. And your training outfit shifts with you," she smiled. "See, watch..."

Steph's eyes shifted to a feral yellow and her muscles bulged underneath her training uniform, growing several inches without fully shifting into her hybrid form (which tended to be a bit more intimidating that she was going for right now)

"This room can take a lot of punishment, and no matter how angry you get, I'm positive we can keep you and everyone else safe. Would you feel better if I put up a force field around us and this bag?"

Steph gave her a sympathetic smile. "Barbara, you're surrounded by people who are all pretty busy with their own work, and more importantly, everyone in this room has had control issues, and if they haven't yet, then they probably will."

She looked around the room briefly, adding conspiratorially, "And if anyone makes fun of you, I'll make sure they never do it again."

Eric's area was a familiar running track, set up around the perimeter of the room, at a steep angle.

He took a few deep breaths and took off, quickly becoming a blur against the ring.

A few moments later, a distinctive smell of burning oil became apparent, as the lubricant within his implants began heating off.

The sound of an Elk bugling a challenge emerged from just inside the virtual forest. Then, a wolf flew out as if thrown. It slammed into the ground before de-rezzing. A triumphant sound followed, then a somehow smug sound.

Ryan peered down at Elise and decided he'd give her a few more minutes to level out before he went down there to her. It was the first class, no need to make a new kid feel like she couldn't work it out herself.

Haley had a mostly blank section of room with about ten cubes of different sizes ranging from about the size of a large die to a large old-school wooden shipping crate. Her instructions were simple: levitate herself six inches above the ground and do the same to as many cubes as possible. Currently, she had about five aloft with her, and she was sweating profusely.

Elk-Graham quickly found himself surrounded by a half-dozen snarling wolves.

Stay calm... stay calm...

A wolf lunged and he kicked it into a tree with his hind legs. Then the rest came at him.

He lost his cool and bolted through a gap before blindly charging out of the trees. It might be best not to be in his path.

Barbara looked down at the olives and, seeing as how everyone else was busy, took a few and swallowed them.

Her unstable-molecule clothes contained her, as she grew up several inches and increased in muscle mass proportionally.

Growling, she slammed a fist into the punching bag, measuring at 4,000 newtons of force!

Alex, meanwhile, was discovering that unlike the other forms, when he hit his strength limit with a lead form, he didn't just drop the weight... his body actually deformed. "What? No! Ahhhh shiiiiiiiittttt..." he said, as the weight fell off the left side as his shoulder started stretching down under it. "Pause! Pause program!"
