Common Room - A taste of home (open)

Up until recently maintained as a museum, the childhood home of the Braddock family has been pressed into service as additional housing and classroom space for the Institute. Additionally, the increased demands have led to the main ballroom being converted into a cafeteria for both the Institute and those University students on a meal plan. Student reactions have been mixed, and reports of paranormal activity are as of yet unsubstantiated.

And that's when Paul started choking on the piece of pizza he'd just bitten.

Did she just... yeah, she really just said that...

She covered her face with her hands.

I didn't even have to set you up for that. You're such an idiot! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

He covered his face as he finished coughing. "Do... ah... do me a favor and don't repeat that to anyone else," he said, smirking embarassedly.

"Don't worry about it," Paul said, waving it off, carefully taking a bite in case she said anything else choke-worthy. "So... uh... what was going on in class?" he finally asked. She'd just commented on his ball-handling skill, he figured he could risk the social blunder.

"The fight? Oh I think it was just two guys trying to size each other up." She obviously isn't thinking of the fact that, you know, her deadly spider had screwed with him.

"OH! That..." She shifts a bit. "Well...it has to do with what I can do and...what I can't do? Yeah that sounds about right. Power control and all that. I'm really sorry you got freaked out. I feel *really* bad. I hate it when he does that."

"Uh...I'm not quite sure how it works. I don't know if it's something I make, or if my tattoos do it themselves, but they kinda...exist in the real world sometimes. I can do it with drawings on my skin too. Like with ballpoint ink and stuff. The wings I can control," She lied. "But Frankie is...I'm not quite sure what's up with him. He's totally an ass, and he likes to scare people. Or make me look stupid. I think it's the latter though."

"Sure made me feel stupid. And uh...which one? I have two. Him and the wings." She pauses and looks at the armband covering Frankie.

Don't worry. I won't bite...much.

"...are you sure?" She asks Paul.

She begins looking first around the room, then frowns and looks at various parts of her skin. Hands, wrists, arms...

You won't find me.
Please don't do this.
It's like hide and seek, only you can't seek. Isn't that great?

She facepalmed.

"He's...hiding, I guess. Um...he likes to move around."

"S-sorry." She looks embarrassed. "Frankie, please come out." She thinks for a moment. "Oh, I get it. You must be shy. Or scared. Yep. That's *totes* it."

...you know that's not true.
Yeah but he doesn't. Guess you're going to have to live with him thinking that.

Sure enough, her hair moves a bit from the back of her neck and Frankie comes skittering out. Fast, making his way to Paul.

"He doesn't bite!" She blurts out.

Frankie skitters across the couch and makes it's way to Paul's leg where it...stops. And stares.

Elise looks nervous.

You know, just because I've never bit someone doesn't mean I can't.

Her face goes white.

"Huh," he said, looking the spider over and trying to look all cool and composed. "It looks cool." He leaned over to get a better look, trying not to make a show of how he was trying to keep his distance, too.

Elise is frozen on the spot.

Pick a number between one and ten.

Frankie uses it's legs to pick a bit at it's fangs. Elise is beginning to sweat.

She slowly stands, face as white as a sheet.

This isn't funny...

Frankie flicks at each fang with each word.

Her eyes are locked on Frankie.

"No..." Her voice barely comes above a whisper. If anything, it was more like an adorable little squeak.

Ohhh too bad. Evens were the winner. Do you think he'll cry?

And that was the moment she lept straight forward to Paul's lap. Apparently she was going to try to stop Frankie no matter what it took.

...Unfortunately Frankie simply skittered quicker than she could move across the couch and under it, disappearing. This left El flying face first hands out towards Paul's lap area.

Paul was at a complete loss. He had no idea what El's problem was, what she was talking about... Then she jumped. Startled, he did what anyone would do: he jumped too, then wished he'd reacted in some better, more useful way.

From the look on his face and the scream he didn't seem to be able to vocalize, getting headbutted in the junk hurt.

And she was on the floor.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Apparently Frankie thought this was damn hilarious. The laughter filled her head as she processed what just happened.

...

...

...

And then it hit her and her eyes went wide, covering her mouth in horror.

YOU FELL FOR IT! AHAHAHAHA!

Haley's eyes widened as she watched the train wreck unfolding in front of her, and winced as she saw Paul's face.

But who the fuck is laughing... she thought loudly.

"Are you guys...okay?"

El was in a state of shock right now. It was a mix of about to burst into tears and just general shock. If there was anger mixed in there, it wasn't seen.

Frankie decided now was a good time to begin skittering quickly across the floor towards Haley now.

Little Miss Muffet...
Please stop...
Make me.

And of course in the state of emotional overload she was in right then, she couldn't.

I thought so. Next time you decide to talk shit about me, think twice.

The tears were coming.

oh? So it's you, making my friend cry you little cocksucker? Haley mindspoke at the spider, backing up.

She put her hand out in front of her and tried to create a field of telekinetic force around the spider to keep it contained.
