Orientation - Refreshing Refreshments

The Estate's meticulously kept gardens, including a hedgemaze that students have occasionally described as "sadistic" and a sizeable rose garden. Benches in shaded spots are plentiful, and the gardens are popular to study in on pleasant days.

Ryan Gabriel wrote:"Enjoying the last five minutes of English sun?" Ryan joked, stopping to glance down at Haley as he walked past. So this is the new batch for the year...

"Yeah. I spent the summer in Texas, Mexico, and Tahiti. Trying to avoid turning into a ghost immediately."

oh em gee, he got even hotter while I was away she thought too loudly. Her control had apparently slipped a bit while she was away.

He smirked. "So I'm going to be getting begged to take you tanning every week in a month or so. Got it," he joked. "But yeah, it is hot here," he added, intentionally 'mishearing' the thought.

Victor looked up at the two women, confused at first.

"Oh! Um, this is?" He said, holding up the purple can of blackcurrant soda. It was fairly likely that he didn't know what a blackcurrant was either. But the can was purple so it had to taste like grape.

Haley reddened considerably as she realized he probably heard.

She tried changing the subject. "Are you still gonna teach PC with Miss K...er...Stephanie?" She still had a hard time switching to a first name basis with the scary, uptight werewolf after her and Ryan sort of completely changed in the middle of last year.

Victor looked the can over curiously. "Eh... I guess it's no weirder than Pepsi or 7-up if you think about it." His voice had a bit of a rural accent to it, but not that of the southern United States. So... probably Australian. He paused with his hand positioned to open it, looking first at Maya and then himself.

"Oh, right, white shirt. Thanks." He gave the top a little tap before cracking the thing open, taking a small sip as he looked up at those gathered around the refreshment table.

Victor just kept drinking as he watched the two girls talking. This was a subject that he definitely could not contribute to in any way that wouldn't be awkward for someone.

A quiet, shy-looking woman makes her way towards the refreshment table and immediately pauses. Her attention is drawn towards the stage where Will is playing piano. She listens very intently on the music, as if each stroke of a key meant a whole statement.

Alex wondered for a moment if Brigid's dad could smell fear like a... wait, could dinosaurs smell fear? That movie said they could only see things if they were moving, didn't it? So if he... wait, but Brigid's dad WASN'T a dinosaur, so he could obviously see oh shit, they were still coming over here and he was standing here staring like a moron. "Yes, sir. Alex, sir." Does he have a spear with him? I hope he doesn't have a spear. Well, I'd be able to see a spear if he had it. But... I wish I was metal right now.

"I don't mean about you, I mean about things in general." He goes to clap Alex on the shoulder in a way that seems meant to be reassuring, but might be a bit harder than Alex is used to.

He smiles. At least it looks like a smile. It's kind of intense.

Alex hesitated (very briefly) then smiled back, feeling a bit like he was smiling at a man-eating tiger. "It's... uh... Good to meet you, sir," he said, offering his hand.

Haley leaned her head further back to regard her history professor who hung upside down in her view. "Of course not. I got a brand new phone so I had to learn all the new apps and it's bigger so I had to learn to type differently."

That was way too considerate for her to turn down either way, even though she isn't actually that curious, so she takes the can and takes a careful sip. She nods and hands it back to him. "It's alright."

"Well, we've been swapping spit, I guess it's okay to swap names too, right?" Victor took the can back and didn't bother to wipe it off, stuff like "casual contact germs" didn't bother him much but he at least knew that it might bother others. "I'm Victor, from Canada."
