I13DT - Still Getting Used To This 'Time' Thing

[Miranda Weaver]

"My only real power memories are of either wearing a collar that blinded me or being strapped to an operating table... so I can't really say."

[Nailah Weaver]

For a moment it's almost as if a cloud was passing by the sun, Nailah's jaw clenching up as memories of Harbinger bubble to the surface.

"I know what that's like. And all your powers can do is make to it worse."

[Miranda Weaver]

"It's hard when you can't close your eyes to make it go away," she said, rubbing one arm absently.

[Nailah Weaver]

She nods.

"How about I show you something that might cheer you up? I have some time until my next class."

[Miranda Weaver]

"That would be nice," she says, brightening up considerably.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Great." she puts on a smile herself as she walks Miranda out of the classroom and the manor. "Do you have a room yet?"

[Miranda Weaver]

"They've been figuring that out. I'm in some sort of guest quarters while they sort something out. Something about 'not existing' makes paperwork difficult." Miranda said, managing to follow Nailah and only almost bump into the doors.

[Nailah Weaver]

"I'm sure they'll work something out. The advantage of not existing is that you're free to be and do what you want." she says, keeping an eye on her while not being so patronizing as to guide her through doors.

[Miranda Weaver]

"Yeah. There's this whole thing about guardians and... well, to be honest, when the lawyer started talking, I just nodded and pretended I understood," she said with a shrug, moving better now that they were out in the open.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Sadly, you're not the first mutant without a guardian and you probably won't be the last. The school is prepared for these things if you wish to stay here. Most of us are outcasts in one way or the other." she says as they make their way across the grounds.

[Miranda Weaver]

"It's not like I have anywhere else to go," she said with a shrug. "And it seems like a nice enough place so far. Beats sitting in a cell."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Well, I do hope we can do better than just 'not a cell'. I'll admit that late Fall is not the prettiest time for England, but I assure you the grounds are beautiful most of the year."

[Miranda Weaver]

"Do you get headaches," she asked, looking at other people on the grounds, or rather sometimes where other people might be going.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Not as much as I used to. It's like riding a bike in the sense that you sometimes hurt yourself trying to get it right."

[Miranda Weaver]

"I see," she said, though she really didn't understand the comparison.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Right now you're just kind of along for the ride with your powers, but eventually you'll learn how to control and steer them and you'll stop falling off the bike and hurting yourself."

[Miranda Weaver]

"I'm just now getting used to hearing people's thoughts... Now this... It's a lot."

[Nailah Weaver]

"You'll figure it out. At the very least you're telepathic. What you're seeing could be things you're seeing through me. There are ways to figure these things out, but something tells me you've had quite enough of people poking and prodding you."

[Miranda Weaver]

"Yeah. I stayed in the infirmary only as long as they made me. Had enough doctors and nurses. So where are we going?"

[Nailah Weaver]

"Just up ahead to the cliffs." she says, pointing at the gentle upward slope that has the vaguely futuristic building of the Point to the right of them and further still the Lighthouse on an outcropping.

"You can see Maldon from here; and of course the ocean." she says as they make it to the top of the cliff above the water's edge.

[Miranda Weaver]

"It's... beautiful," she said, looking out over the ocean.

[Nailah Weaver]

"I thought it might be good to see that you didn't trade one cage for another. And rushing past it in that jet just doesn't do it justice."

[Miranda Weaver]

"Flying was cool though. I was really bored by the time we got back here though."

[Nailah Weaver]

"You don't have to tell me." she smiles.

[Miranda Weaver]

"Those wings work?"

[Nailah Weaver]

"They certainly do." she says, stretching her shoulders and unfolding her wings.

[Miranda Weaver]

Without thinking, she reached out to touch them and then realized what she was doing and pulled her hand back like she was about to be burned. "Sorry," she said, looking down.

[Nailah Weaver]

"That's alright. Maybe ask the next time." she smirks faintly. "You're curious about the world instead of scared. That's good."

[Miranda Weaver]

"I'm done being scared."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Good, because you have a lot of catching up to do." she smirks. "I'll see to it that you'll have a dorm room by the time classes are done for the day."

[Miranda Weaver]

"I appreciate it," she seemed to be racking her brain for a second, "... Miss Weaver."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Don't mention it. Now run along or you'll be late for Math. To the left from the main entrance, second door after the corner."

[Miranda Weaver]

"Yes, ma'am," she said, smiling and hurrying off.
