"It was on the list, I just didn't know how far you've gotten," he said, and the wolf in Steph would probably sense him forcing down his instinct to fight. "Everything on some level is going to be a matter of brute force, Brigid. The key is to learn enough that you have enough in your head that you've got options showing up on your radar that don't involve what angle you bash from with a blunt object."

"Here... let's try this." He walked over to his desk, pulled a pouch out, then locked it. "I'm assuming you've never tried opening a lock the gentle way?" he said, tossing a few strips of metal from the pouch to her. "You've been practicing with tension and leverage. Show men how small and non-violent you can go," he said, pointing at the locked drawer.

"And that's not entirely a bad thing. I see lots of shortest routes when I'm shifted. They're effective sometimes. What all this practice does though is let you see that there can be other routes that are just as effective, if not more, than the short, direct one."

There was a grumble of frustration from Brigid, and then something in her went on autopilot and her hands performed a quick, precise motion with the picks.

She slid the drawer open, somewhat in amazement.

"I... I did it!"

However, Ryan would find upon examination that the tumblers of the lock were no longer functional.

Ryan chuckled as he looked over the drawer and the lock mechanism slid out into his hand. "Did it pretty permanently, but it's a start," he said. "I'll set up your permissions to give you some interactive technical programs. We'll find out if it changes things the more you know about them."
