[Sara's Lab] Reconstructive Kneading

Built with a generous grant from one of the University's benefactors, this clinic serves both the University and the incoming students of the Institute. More severe injuries are stabilized here first, then medevaced to nearby Muir Island.

[Sara's Lab] Reconstructive Kneading

Postby Sara Stanton » Fri Nov 09, 2012 11:51 am

Sara is in her lab, staring at the rows and rows of tubes, trying not to think about what Will must have been through as she begins to open them to pour them into a big vat.

The clay would all slide out with wet squelching plumps, which of course would do wonders for Sara's mood.

She keeps telling herself that it's necessary and just an effect of Will having gone 'slack' for lack of a better word but it's till gut-wrenching to hear.

Once she finally has everything emptied into the vat she starts a scanner ring that goes up and down along the vat. If she's going to do anything to help him she first needs to know what exactly they did to him and how to reverse it. She has a couple ideas but she's not taking any chances. While the scanner works she takes a small sample of clay to look at under the electron microscope.

Bonded at a cellular level were a number of small grey---circles of some kind? They looked electronic in nature.

"Fucking bastards..." she mumbles. "How am I going to separate those? Maybe an electromagnetic pulse, but what if that hurts the cells..."

If her equipment was attuned to it, she might even notice a very, very low power source keeping the things--charged? Is that the right word? Let's go with charged. It seemed to be generated from inside the various gray spheres.

Since it was intended on picking up on nerve signals it'd show up as interference at the very least, so she tunes the scanner until she's narrowed it down.

"Shit, they're self-sufficient..." Pulling up the data Madrox recovered she looks through them to see if she can find how they triggered the embedded network.

Hard to tell, as these aren't exactly available at Radio Shack, but they seemed to be receivers of some sort.

"Shit, I'll need some help with that... But as long as they're not active they should be harmless." she mumbles and pulls up her own data to see if she has enough data to piece together a pattern that'd maybe mimic the brain-patterns of someone waking up.

The answer to that one was likely no -- I mean, she had never recorded Will going to bed or anything, nor had she had the might of the British Empire behind her research.

"God damnit... Wake up Will!" she says, weakly hitting the vat. "You have to be in there. I know it. I can put you back together, but you have to wake up!"

Frustrated she starts sending random signals from her known list of patterns into the vat.

Once she had found the proper frequency, this did create a churning mess as the conflicting signals activated all the electrical nodes throughout the clay.

"I don't know how to animate yo--" she interrupts herself, staring off into the air. "No... That can't work. She doesn't even know how yet... But maybe... Wait here, Will, I'll wake you up yet!" she says before running out of the lab.

Maybe 20 minutes later she comes back, holding Robin's hand, smiling that 'Everything's alright' smile that's reserved exclusively for lieing to kids about how everything is okay. Really. "Now, I need you to do something for me and Daddy. Don't worry, it's not hard. All you have to do is sit here, okay?" she smiles, lifting her up to sit on one of the table.

She rummages around for a moment to try and find the most harmless looking electrical probe and settles on a small metal rob with a cable.

"Just hold on to this. Can you do that, Robbie?" she asks, holding it out to her.

She can't help but smile at that and then goes to hook the cable into the computer to translate the signals it picks up and send it into the vat.

"Okay, now we just play a bit." she says, taking Robin's hands and holding them up. And a little further. And further.

"Aaaand pull them down again."

She nods. "He's asleep right now in the big tub. But we're going to wake him up. See that thing you're holding is a magic wand and you have to wish really hard to wake up. Just imagine how it is in the morning when you get out of bed and yaaawn and stretch and are still a little sleepy but you get up anyway."

She looks deeply contemplative for a moment (for a two year old at least), chewing on her lip. "Okie."

Robin looks like she very much doubts that because that doesn't look like fun at all, but decides she's willing to make this sacrifice. Afterall she has to help Daddy. Also she vaguely remembers pudding being promised and pudding is fun. At least when Daddy gives it to her cause he doesn't mind it so much when she makes eating pudding fun. So she yawns (and totally not because Mommy does it and it's infectious, nu-uh) and rubs her eyes. Then she lies down on the table and rolls over till she's on her stomach and looks around.

And then she does what you do in the morning when you wake up and Daddy is still sleeping. She starts wailing like only Irish death-spirits and two-year olds can.

Sara glances over at the monitor and though the readings make little sense to her she sends them into the vat. But not before picking up Robin.

"Shh, you can stop. That was very good." If ear-splitting.
