What's so awesome about swords anyway?

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

What's so awesome about swords anyway?

Brigid waited in the Danger Room in her workout clothes, a sullen look on her face.

Kevin strolled in, wearing dark workout pants and a blue Adventure Time t-shirt. He was also carrying a container of cookies.

"I hope you like awesome cookies. Who am I kidding, of course you do."

"Alright then. What do you want to talk about?"

Don't say dinosaurs. Don't say dinosaurs!

"The many uses of melee weapons? Or perhaps, as I have no illusions that you aren't thinking it, why Seraph assigned you to a giant dork?"

"Then don't look for one," he answered, "But you can't always avoid a situation where you'll have to defend yourself, those you care about, or simply those around you."

"Well okay, I tell people that my power is knowing how to use something when I pick it up. That's... true, for what it's worth."

"What I usually don't mention is that my power is knowing how to hurt people with what I'm holding. It's not that I have an instinct for weapons, it's that... pretty much anything I grab gets interpreted as a weapon by my power."

"My brother and parents think it's great. I mean, they see it as me being able to defend myself with anything I can get my hands on."

"I don't think it's so cool, you know?"

"I know. Believe me, I do," he answered, significantly less jovial than earlier. "My own power is... quite conducive to hurting people. When it first activated I very nearly cut another kids arm off. For quite a while after that I was terrified of what I might do the next time it acted up."

"But hey, this place is more like a second home than a school. Probably why fighting to defend it comes so easy. That and so perhaps people who don't want to don't feel they have to. Believe me, I hope you never have to."

"For starters? En garde," he smirked as he took a combat stance.

When he said that, a sword rezzed into his left hand and another floating by Brigid.

"Completely safetied, I promise."

"...alright."

She gripped the sword and tested its weight for a moment while her power got a feel for it, then snapped into a defensive stance.

"We'll need to work on your stance... but not much! Definite learning advantage there."

"Oh! One more thing," he said. With a snap of his fingers, a battleground appeared. "Man I love this thing."
