Though many students might prefer going to London, Maldon provides closer amenities for those without a car or unwilling to pay for a cab. Several pubs are available, though the Rose and Crown is notable for having been where Excalibur spent a good deal of their downtime. Also of note is the Plume Library, home to many rare books.
"And felt like drinking alone, apparently. Couldn't even be bothered to call me," Victoria fake-pouted, nodding to the bartender and telling him to get her her usual.
"Oh, wonderful," Claire says, "Smothered in parental affections and paranoia. With the MRA getting passed, I had to spend days talking them into letting me leave."
"Mmm... This would be the place where I say 'I know what you mean,' but that would require me to know what you mean. I can't say 'smothered with affection and overprotectiveness' is on my list of experiences," Victoria said appologetically.
"See, it's a good thing I know better, because that almost sounded like a complaint," Victoria mused. Her smirk faded a bit into a more genuine smile. "I'm glad you're back."
Victoria smiled. "But I knew how irritated you'd be at the thought of me sulking about how I had no more friends, so I was sure you'd be back," she teased.
She sighed. "Honestly I haven't been as productive as I'd like. I finally took enough time away from this place to realize just how strange it feels. I mean, magically. Makes it hard to sleep."
"You always help," Victoria said with a soft smile, looking thoughtfully ahead before catching herself, glancing over at Claire, and smiling, somewhat glad she couldn't blush.
Victoria grinned, then reached over and gave Claire's hand an affectionate squeeze while the bartender wasn't around. "If that's how you want to put it, yes."
