Ooooh, shiney (open)

Up until recently maintained as a museum, the childhood home of the Braddock family has been pressed into service as additional housing and classroom space for the Institute. Additionally, the increased demands have led to the main ballroom being converted into a cafeteria for both the Institute and those University students on a meal plan. Student reactions have been mixed, and reports of paranormal activity are as of yet unsubstantiated.

Alex sat in the den, the TV playing some weird British show that he wasn't really paying any attention to. On the coffee table next to him were various small items: a few rings, a bracelet or two, a few coins and some more random metal items. Currently he was holding a coin in his hand, frowning as he rolled it between his fingers.

"Dude. This place is. So. Cool!" Jason beamed as he entered and noticed Alex, "Why the frowny face?"

"Because I can't... freaking... turn into gold," Alex griped, glancing up and smirking at Jason. "I'm concentrating. Y'know, just like that face you make in Geometry lecture."

"Because you... want to chop off and sell gold body parts?" he asked with a subtly confused expression.

"Well no, I- Seriously, that's where you go? What the hell am I going to do without parts of my body?"

"Well... gold just isn't that useful, unless you want to be wiring or something."

"Well yeah, but I can't do anything with it at all if I can't turn into it. I mean... steel's easy enough by now," he said, tossing the coin down with a 'clink' and picking up a ring off the table. He looked at it, frowned a moment as he focused, then slipped it on. His body, starting from the ring and spreading out over the rest of him, turned silver and metallic, and he looked eminently pleased with himself.

"That never ceases to be cool," he grinned.

"How does that feel anyway?"

Alex thought about it. "Hard to explain. It's like... I can feel the metal in these when I'm touching them. And when I can finally sync with them I can understand them. And... now I can feel my whole body that way, which is really weird."

"Understand them?" he asked, blinking.

Alex just shrugged, turning back and taking the ring off. "One of these ought to be a little easier than the others, you'd think," he said, picking up the coin again.

"Yeah... a malleable metal should be easier... shouldn't it?" he wondered, "Is it solid gold or just plated?"
