Sky-High

The Estate's meticulously kept gardens, including a hedgemaze that students have occasionally described as "sadistic" and a sizeable rose garden. Benches in shaded spots are plentiful, and the gardens are popular to study in on pleasant days.

Sky-High

High above the grounds Nailah was slowly drifting in circles, just letting her mind wander as the wind whips around her.

As Nailah flew, a long shadow seemed to creep across the lawn below.

She blinks and her first instinct is to look over her shoulder to look for a cloud.

Not a one that would match this shape, and the edges are too defined to really be a cloud. Something long, tall, solid.

Folding her wings in for a moment she lets herself dive down to try and make out what's happening down there.

As she circled and descended, the shape became more obvious. The sides were perfectly straight, though tapering. The tip of the shadow beveled off into a pointed shape. It was mathematically precise.

"Is that..." she mumbles. "How's that possible?"

Leaning into a turn she aims to land at the base of the shadow.

And the more she turned to follow it, the fainter it got. Still, where the outline originated was clear enough even as the last of it faded.

The lighthouse's foundation.

She sets down next to it and slowly looks around. "If you cast a shadow you have to be here in some way. Whatever 'you' might be..."

Some of her words echoed, as if they were going down a corridor.

"Ertau unsu en ami Nu, behennu en amiu at'at..." she reaches out, trying to draw the flow of magic together to see if anything feels off.

There was... a drawing of breath of sorts. An inhalation. An exhalation. It didn't feel unnatural by any means. It felt like part of the landscape. The weather.

She lets go and lets it flow around her, not trying to twist it.

"Is this why they built the lighthouse here?" she asks herself, wondering what makes this place special.

Oddly, the exhalation seemed... greater than the inhalation. There was give and take, but the give was far greater than the take, as if the world around her flowed from this very spot.

Nailah furrows her brows and draws on some of the ambient energy to conjure a simple flame.

It's abundant. She gets a bit more flame than she bargained for, but it also blows in an unseen breeze, away from the foundation.

She was somewhat worried something like that might happen and isn't entirely caught by surprise, letting the flame fizzle out again.

"It's strong enough to actually blow the flame..." she mumbles. "Whatever it is, it's either really advantageous or incredibly dangerous."

As her mumbled words echoed off of nothing in particular, she heard the faint pealing of a fog bell.
