I8DT: Mad Man

[Will Stanton]

"Yeah. Just about this size, honestly."

[Narrator]

"I was wondering, you really got the 'I'm not going to eat that' down perfectly." Alfie continued "My little man is almost two."

[Will Stanton]

"Ah! Yes, great! Glad to hear it.

To be honest, though, I needn't have bothered--this stuff really IS horrible."

[Narrator]

"Yes, it is." Alfie agreed "D'ya know that we each get a case of it? As a 'bonus'?"

[Will Stanton]

"...I'm not gonna want to LOOK at them after this. Steak for my girl from now on."

[Narrator]

"Save it for the birthday of someone you dislike." Alfie suggested with a grin.

[Will Stanton]

"Very good call," Will laughed.

[Narrator]

(((((some time later)))))))

"If everyone is done eating, I think we can try to get finished before dark." The director said to the assembled group.

[Will Stanton]

"Of course..."

[Narrator]

"Did you have a question, Mr. Stanton?"

[Will Stanton]

"Not at all...sir."

[Narrator]

"Very good." the director said as they headed for the set "Now, I've brought in a special guest, to help you understand my vision for this advert."

In the highchair was a baby who looked, well, remarkably like Will did at the moment.

[Will Stanton]

"...what's this?"

[Narrator]

"I brought in a....acting coach, lets say." he replied "Now, Alfie and Marjorie are going to do the first part of the scene with him. Watch and learn, watch and learn."

[Will Stanton]

"..." Will sat in slack-jawed silence.

[Narrator]

They did the first part of the scene, with the food refusal looking more like a bratty temper tantrum than the baby just saying 'no' to food.

"Cut!" the director said "No, Mr. Stanton, do you see what I need? There needs to be a contrast between the other food and the fishpaste. Then, the dance."

[Will Stanton]

"So, you want a temper tantrum?"

[Narrator]

"Yes, but a refined one. You can't just yell and scream. There needs to be real feeling and passion behind it."

[Will Stanton]

"...all...right. I'll, uh, see what I can do..."

[Narrator]

"yes, lets." he replied, before taking a moment to effusively thank the baby and parents for their time.

[Will Stanton]

This time, Will kicked and screamed, slamming his fist on the tray in a style he had seen Robin do before.

[Narrator]

"No, no." the director said "I need you to really feel the fit. They need to know that when a baby won't eat, only fishpaste will do."

[Will Stanton]

"...really...feel the fit. Um, right..." Will said, trying to channel some of his anger at the director into his performance.

[Narrator]

"The fit was very nice, but I need a bit more enthusiasm over the fishpaste."

[Will Stanton]

"...that's the hardest bit, but I'll give it a try..."

[Narrator]

"Please do. I should like to be going home soon."

[Will Stanton]

"I'm just getting a little full, here. How much of this stuff have I choked down?"

[Narrator]

"No more than three or four tubes." he replied "Can we please get on with it? Or do you have more questions?"

[Will Stanton]

"...no, sir. Right back on it..." Will said, before performing yet another take.

[Narrator]

"And that is a wrap." the director said "Finally. Everyone, go home."

[Will Stanton]

"Excellent..." Will said, fiddling with the chair again.
