The Grants and Simon.

Postby Lucy Grant » Sun Sep 25, 2011 12:31 am

The apartment had, obviously, been decorated by Lucy while the others were on missions. THis was evidenced by all the paintings on the walls, and the 'artistic' touches she'd added everywhere. The effect was a bit eccentric, but still looked good.

Currently, the girls were happily chatting, going over some sort of work that they were both contributing to at the kitchen table.

"But look at it like this! In every universe you spell it with a C, right? I mean, you did it in mine, you do it, here, so that must be the way it's SUPPOSED to be! So it's better to change it like THIS!"

"But that would be pronounced 'Chip-ling' not 'Kip-ling'." Chloe protested "And if our last name was 'Chip-ling' we couldn't name our first child 'Kim'."

"But you could TELL people that you pronounce it "Kipling!" I mean, you don't spell your FIRST name with a K and it sounds like that! You can just tell them it's a yank thing!"

The sound of the flat door opening and closing signaled Simon's arrival home. Well, it was still kind of new for him to consider it home, he didn't even have all of his things moved in yet. And his home would always be his family's house back in America. But it was home enough.

The door signaled his arrival because his voice didn't the man silently hanging up his over-sized coat and knit cap he'd been wearing.

"Oh, we were just talking about how Chloe's going to spell her name when you two get married, and she thinks that she should change her name to be spelled with a K so that her initials are the same, but I told her that she should just change the last name to start with a C, instead, since in every world her name's spelled with a C, so that's how it's supposed to be, right? But she has a good point that if the last name changes, I suppose, that 'Kim' wouldn't be a good name for your first daughter,, I don't know how to get around that one."

"No, no, no." Chloe said "I was saying that Kim would be a good name for our first child. Kim could be a name for a boy as well. In the book, Kim is a boy. That was how I thought of it. At first I thought it'd be cute to name a boy Rudyard, but that seemed a bit too obvious. So then I thought oh, of course, we'll name him 'Kim', and then I thought that it might not work if we only had a girl, but then I thought that 'Kim' could be used for a girl, so now its settled. We can name our first baby Kim."

Simon just stared at Lucy, then Chloe, then at them both.

"I thought we were all going with Stanton."

Lucy put her hands on her hips. "This is serious, Simon! What name she picks will affect all your kids and everything, and she has to make sure to pick something your parents would like whenever she meets them so they aren't grumbling whenever you two go to America to visit!"

"Oh, sorry. 'The mental'. You'll have to excuse me because my English and your English are different."

Simon raised his hands and paused before speaking.

"Can we step back a bit?" He asked. "Okay, our relationship is a house, okay? Right now we're still laying the foundations. You can't go and start decorating a nursery before the cement dries." An architecture analogy was the only way he could think to explain his position.

"Stop worrying about stuff that's in the far off future. We've got more than enough to worry about right now."

"But in a year, Nana's birthday won't be on a Sunday!" Chloe exclaimed "We'd have to wait for years and years before we got married if we were going to get married on Nana's birthday. We could go with another date, but...it'd be so sweet. And good luck. Our parents didn't and look what happened with them." she looked at Simon "I know its early, and that is why I don't want to have a baby right now. But that doesn't mean that we can't think of it at all. I mean, by now surely we're starting to frame the walls, so we can at least see where the nursery is going to be."

Chloe ran over and hugged Simon "Oh! I didn't even think of that! I'm such a goose! Of course you'd want to propose properly! I'm sorry for getting ahead of myself like that. I promise, no more talk about marriage until you've had time to save up and pick out a ring and everything."

"No, silly." Chloe said "Its a lawyer. I think its a bit different, but close enough. And Lucy is right. You don't have to be extravagant. I know that you'd want to be, but a simple necklace would be fine. What is important to me is being with you."

"Lucy, my evil twin killed people. No court in the world is going to rule in favor of me no matter how many times you tell them I didn't do it." Simon stressed.

Simon wrapped his tail around Chloe's waist and gave her a little squeeze. "Thanks."

"The school's lawyers and PR people are working on it. It's not just me you know, Will and Gideon received a lot of negative press too. I don't know which of them I feel more sorry for. Will's such a loving father but this could really make him doubt himself, you know how his self-esteem is. And Gideon... has a history, and he looks the part. It'll take a lot to convince people otherwise.

Simon reached over and ruffled Lucy's hair. "Don't be hard on the girls. You'd be nervous too if you worked with a guy who looked like a mass murderer. I mean, they all knew it wasn't me but I still set them on edge. And in that industry the safety and comfort of those girls makes or breaks a club."
