I8: What's so important about an office?

Croyd was moving boxes into his new office or rather Mile's old office. A few more boxes were floating behind him on what appeared to be glowing platters.

"I'd ask if you needed a hand, but you seem to have a handle on things," Madison says, "Madison West."

[Croyd Webster]

Croyd put down the box he'd personally been carrying and turned towards Madison. He smiled slightly at Madison's comment.

"I appreciate the offer regardless," Croyd said offering his hand, "Croyd Webster."

Madison shook his hand briefly, "Good to meet you."

[Croyd Webster]

"I've heard good things," Croyd said grabbing a box off a platter and putting on top of the desk, "You're head of the X-Team program here in London aren't you?"

Croyd's office was littered with boxes. One box that didn't have a lid had a couple photos, some Academy of Tomorrow knick knacks, and an X-Corp commendation. Other than that the boxes were closed, and not particularly interesting.

"As much as anyone can be," Madison says, "The X-Teams are a herd of cats. Not exactly a military discipline here at Xavier's."

[Croyd Webster]

"Wonder what that makes the high school teams?" Croyd mused before returning to the topic at hand.

"Discipline was never really a hallmark of the X-Men," Croyd said, "Passion, talent, and skill certainly."

[Madison West]

"And look where that got them," Madison says, "Half the time they were cleaning up their own screw ups. Not the best PR for the species."

[Croyd Webster]

"At least they were getting good PR," Croyd said, "I would've thought they brought you in to make sure this crew stayed disciplined. Not that they've done a bad job so far, they've saved the world several times and gotten some great PR for the species."

"I can imagine there's a certain challenge to keeping multiple teams from doing anything that reflects badly on the school, the species, or the X-Men in general."

"I'm not about to propose the sort of program that'd kick these kids into shape," Madison says, "They're not soldiers and they don't want to be. Forcing that on them would be wrong."

[Croyd Webster]

"True," Croyd said, "But instilling discipline doesn't mean turning them into soldiers. They volunteered to be part of what is essentially a trained vigilante group that represents mutants they have a certain amount of responsibility to be a positive representation. If they didn't want to be held to a higher standard maybe they shouldn't have volunteered."

"Setting those standards and enforcing them for a group of college aged mutants probably isn't any easier than teaching power control to recently manifested mutants."

[Madison West]

"They volunteered to help people," Madison says, "And they do a good job of that. I'm not going to complain just because they don't line up in rows and use proper squad formations."

"Plus, it's hard enough convincing people the X-Teams aren't our own private army without those sort of programs into place."

[Croyd Webster]

"There's certainly a middle ground to be found," Croyd said, "Between instilling discipline and turning them into a paramilitary group."

"But you're right there's no good way to go about it and if you don't get it right then the public complains about Xavier having his own private army or there's a breakdown and you end up with other problems."

"But it's your area of expertise not mine. I'm just here to be the new counselor and to teach power control and development."

[Madison West]

"Well, good luck to you on that," Madison says.

[Croyd Webster]

"Thanks," Croyd smiled. "I've survived the last 14 years without getting crippled, so hopefully I don't need it."

[Madison West]

"First time for everything," Madison says with a smile.

[Croyd Webster]

"I just hope the first time doesn't involve my limbs in one place and my torso in another," Croyd smiled. "Unless the power of the week happens to be accelerated healing, but I suppose that is where your luck would play into this."

[Madison West]

"Oh, I'm sure the healers would put you back together."

[Croyd Webster]

"Maybe I should ask one to sit in on my classes," Croyd mused. "Certainly would save me the trouble of leaving a trail of blood all the way to the infirmary. Hopefully it doesn't come to that though I'm sure there are some mutants here who've never had any actual training."

[Madison West]

"Plenty of those," Madison says, "I'll pass on some of my dossiers. A few of our problem children as well."

[Croyd Webster]

"I would appreciate that," Croyd says, "Going in blind is never a good idea. Especially with students who might be able to level buildings. Hopefully a few non problem students will take the classes."

[Madison West]

"There's always hope!" Madison says cheerfully.

[Croyd Webster]

"That doesn't bode well," Croyd chuckled. "Especially with the last counselor not lasting particularly long. I'm just glad he left me his case files."

[Madison West]

"The ones that didn't get burnt in our last attack," Madison says.

[Croyd Webster]

"That would explain the... state of some of the files," Croyd said.
