He chuckled at that. "Only way I can think of to describe it. I noticed it before I came here... if you go to different cities, or even different parts of a city, people's minds feel kind of the same from place to place. You feel more different than most, though."

He frowned a little. "Well, the Professor doesn't. And Ms. Grey... well... that's just a whole different story, you know? And I'm thinking Ms. Frost doesn't exactly count as human, so that's not a good comparison."

Mike smiled, a little bitterly. "Sending a kid to a mutant school wasn't... oh, how did he think it, 'politically convenient' for my father. Took a few, shall we say, heated control issues before he broke down. Public schools aren't fun when everyone knows you're a mutant."

He shrugged. "Well, he did a complete about-face on his stance on mutants, so that he could get the support of the pro-mutant lobby, at least. Ever the opportunist, I guess. I turned into a political asset, go figure."
