Practice Makes Perfect (open thread)

[Jennifer Tarasova]

Jennifer sat in a booth off to one side with a glass of vodka and a glass of water. She sipped at the water before setting it back down and making the water swirl in the glass without touching it before turning her attention back to the vodka. She stared at it for a long minute, almost as if she was trying to get a sense of it or looking for something in the clear liquid.

[Jake]

Off on the edge of the bar, a rather average looking brown haired guy was watching her water swirling with slight interest.

Finally Jennifer seemed to find what she was looking for in the vodka and it started swirling while the water itself slowed down to a stop.

[Jake]

"Can you do both at once?" He asked, once he noticed the swirling switch glasses.

[Jennifer Tarasova]

Jennifer looked at him, adjusting her glasses. "Possibly," she said. Without looking back at the liquids, the water started swirling as well.

[Jake]

"coooool."

He reached back, getting his beer to take a sip.

The water stopped swirling as she concentrated on the vodka. The vodka wrapped around itself and turned into a liquid pillar that didn't touch the sides of the glass. Her brow furrowed slightly with concentration.

[Jake]

Mr. Beer watched, unwilling to interrupt her focus.

[Jennifer Tarasova]

Shortly the water followed suit. Then, with a motion from her hands, the two liquids swapped glasses without touching each other. Jennifer blinked and smiled, apparently pleased with herself.

[Jake]

"Very nice. Tink you deserve a drink," He said, smirking.

[Jennifer Tarasova]

"I have one," Jennifer said with a smile, taking a sip of the vodka.

[Jake]

"As I was about to helpfully point out!" He said, grinning.

[Jennifer Tarasova]

"So do you have a name or are you just the 'mysterious stranger'," Jennifer asked.

[Jake]

"Jake." he replied.

[Jennifer Tarasova]

"Just Jake? No last name? Or is it like Cher or Yanni?" Jennifer smirked.

[Jake]

"Just... Jake. It's a bit of a long story," he replied, a little uncomfortably.

[Jennifer Tarasova]

"That's okay. I'm sure everyone here has one. A long story that is," she said as if dismissing the subject.

[Jake]

Jake smiled, clearly a bit relieved she was willing to let it pass.

"So, what's your name, then.?" he asked looking at her glass thoughtfully.

[Jennifer Tarasova]

"Jennifer." She took another sip from the vodka glass, obviously used to drinking the stuff carefully.

[Jake]

"Nice name, Jennifer. Mind if I join you? I haven't been out in a while."

[Jennifer Tarasova]

"Sure," Jennifer said, motioning to a seat opposite her.

[Jake]

Getting the bartender to switch his beer for a couple shots of vodka, he joins her.

"So, i guess we run in different circles.. I haven't seen you around before."

[Jennifer Tarasova]

"I'm pretty new here. Starting with the summer session."

[Jake]

"Well, nice to meet you. It might be a bit too late for me to offer a tour, but the offer is still on the table."

smiling, he took a sip of the first vodka shot.

"So, you weren't in London for the Legacy epidemic?"

[Jennifer Tarasova]

"I was in the States. Came home after things didn't work out there."

[Jake]

"Yeah, me too. Brooklyn Jewish family."

[Jennifer Tarasova]

"Russian on my father's side, Welsh on my mother's."

[Jake]

"Cool. It's always nice to see another American face. "

he looked back towards her water glass, curious again.

"so, you play with water like a potter plays with clay?"

[Jennifer Tarasova]

"You could say that. And ice and fog, since they're all water."
