I7DT: Working away the time

Postby David Renko » Sat Aug 06, 2011 11:25 pm

Renko had been working at his bench for the last 16 hours straight. He had not changed from the clothes he'd worn during the fight, simply moved straight onto his workshop. He sat there wearing goggles while working on fixing and making adjustments to his gauntlets.

Stephanie walked into the room, a concerned look on her face before she spotted Renko.

"David. There you are. Not answering your phone? I was worried about you," she said walking over to his work bench.

Renko had apparently self-bandaged his head, which was stained a dark reddish color.

"Oh, Stephanie, sorry about that I always get terrible reception down here." Renko said continuing to work on his gauntlet, "Made a bit of a mess out of these things earlier. Couldn't have me melting down half the school."

Renko's phone was sitting on the work bench where he'd apparently been ignoring it as it showed the messages and missed calls from Stephanie among others.

"David...did you go to the infirmary after the fight?" she asked, her eyes widening at sight of his blood-stained bandage.

"No time for that and it's no big deal. Doesn't even hurt anymore," Renko said, "Had to fix these first. Can't have anything else bad happen to anybody because I didn't keep them in top form."

"It's a head wound, and you don't have enhanced healing, unless you're getting some cool new secondary mutations," she scolded. "They can give you an inhibitor collar until you feel better. Besides. I'm not sure I trust your repair skills when you might be concussed."

Renko pulled off his goggles. He had dark circles around his eyes, and a rather interesting looking bruise around one eye and down one side of his face.

"It's perfectly fine," Renko said touching the side of his head and then showing her dried blood, "I don't want to hurt anybody else. I-I mean what's a head wound compared to killing somebody? Nothing. That's why I've got to fix these. I can't kill somebody else. I-I just can't do it."

"Oh, David," she said soothingly, moving close to embrace him. "It...it's hard, I know. But...you're not thinking straight. And continuing to work like this won't prevent anything. It might make things worse. You're tired, you had a very traumatic experience, and your head might be hurt. C'mon...let's get you to the infirmary. They can put you in an inhibitor collar until we're sure that your gauntlets are working."

Renko seemed to relax in Stephanie's embrace for a second before he pushed away from her quite suddenly. He'd actually pushed away from her with his own bare hands, which is probably how Steph noticed he wasn't wearing any gauntlets at all.

"N-not too close, Steph. I don't want to hurt you," Renko said, "Should be a spare set in my room, but too many people in the dorms, too many in the medical center, just too many people. "

I7DT: Working away the time

Postby Stephanie Kaltiera » Wed Aug 10, 2011 9:09 pm

"David," she said, a hint of sternness in her voice, "you have more control than you give yourself credit for. I saw you at the stadium. If you can do that with your gauntlets, I think you can at least hold back your power without."

She was probably talking about slowing down the zombies rather than aging a guy to death.

Steph crossed her arms, "If you're that concerned, I'll go get an inhibitor collar from the infirmary myself and then drag you, kicking and screaming to the infirmary so that you can rest and get your head looked at."

Renko blinked a couple of times and looked like he was going to argue with Stephanie, but instead simply nodded. He picked up the pair of gauntlets.

"One still works a little," Renko said sounding chastened and slipping the gauntlet onto his hand. It flickered to life, then flickered some more. "A little...I'm sorry Steph...I-I just don't know how to deal with this kind of thing.I very thoroughly got the crap beaten out of me then I killed somebody. I'm not entirely sure I'm quite as well suited for this hero business as you lot are."

"That first part really isn't helping the second part," she said gently. "You need rest, and someone to take a look at your head. I know it's tough...but we should be having this conversation when you haven't been up for this long without any rest."

Renko picked up his cell phone and stared at it for a moment.

"3 calls? From Steph, oh crap, she's going to hate me..." Renko said beginning to press buttons then looked at Stephanie and blushed, "Right. You're right here. Right."

"The infirmary. Right. Conversation later. Right. Sleep, but it's only been...36 hours."

Renko began walking unsteadily towards the door the second gauntlet dangling from his hand.

Stephanie smiled weakly at Renko. "Yes. Good. I didn't want to have to carry you out of here like a caveman."

She let him walk a little bit before deciding it would be better for her to help him. She hurried to his side and put her arm around him to steady him.

Renko put his arm around Stephanie as they walked towards the Infirmary. He leaned on her his steps forming something of a zig-zag pattern.

"I'm sorry for all of this," Renko said sounding like he was having a moment of clarity. "Should be stronger than this, you deserve somebody stronger than this, sitting there trying to avoid everything. Maybe you should've brought a club with you?"

Perhaps he wasn't quite having a moment of clarity.

"Mr. Renko, you've been up long enough that you're basically drunk. I doubt the blow to the head helps. You are everything I'd want in a guy, and saying anything else is a lie."

After walking for a while...or perhaps meandering was a better word, Stephanie stopped and steadied him again. "Okay. This is taking a while. Will you hate me if I carry you?"

Renko's only true acknowledgment of Stephanie's statement was his blushing a darker shade of red.

"I don't really think that's possible, so no?" Renko asked,"Maybe I can fix the gauntlet on the way. Though..

Renko paused for a second.

No please do before I do something incredibly stupid."

Stephanie shifted to make it perhaps slightly less emasculating for Renko, and also to ensure he had a completely smooth ride. She gingerly scooped him into her arms, and started carrying him.

"I'm pretty good at chasing cats for some reason..." she said with mock puzzlement.

It wasn't long before they arrived at the infirmary, and Stephanie carried Renko in gingerly before setting him down on an empty wheelchair that was near the door. She shifted back to human form and started pushing him towards the front desk where they could get him checked in and looked at.

"There. I don't think too many people saw that," she smiled.

"Good, good," Renko said though whether it was in answer to the first or second statement was a bit of a mystery.

The nurses attached a power inhibitor onto Renko's neck before telling Stephanie to wheel him to one of the examination rooms.

"I don't think It'd ever be bad being seen with you since I'd be with you."

So apparently even concussed Renko is still filled with flattery.

The doctor came in and interrupted the no doubt extremely witty retort that Renko had prepared. The doctor unwrapped the soiled bandages and looked at Renko's head wound and seemed somewhat confused by what he saw.

"Your healing factor seems to have dealt the worst of it," the doctor said, "You need to get a good nights rest and come back in for a follow up tomorrow, but whatever healing factor you have will probably be able to handle the concussion.
"

Renko blinked at the doctor a couple times.

"So I just need to get some sleep?"

"And get the wound site cleaned up. It'll probably be tender for a while, so be careful to not reopen the injury."

"What about the"

"You can keep the inhibitor until you get the gauntlets running Mr. Renko."

"How di-"

"X-Corp made sure all of your medical files were sent to us, so we know about the control issues. In the future we'd prefer you came in right away after a mission."

Renko looked incredibly embarrassed and the Doctor spared him further lecturing by looking at Stephanie.

"Can you make sure he gets to sleep? We're running low on beds as is without somebody with a concussion filling one."

"Healing fac...wait what?" she asked, confused.

She looked at Renko then back at the doctor again, "Yeah. I'll take him back to his place and make sure he gets some rest...anything else?"

Renko shrugged at Stephanie's look.

"Not in the files transferred to us, secondary mutations aren't completely unknown could also be an unknown application,"
the doctor said casually, "But that isn't my area of expertise. You'd need to speak with an expert like Dr.Bowen."

"Keep an eye on him. Concussions can be tricky even with his healing factors."

"uh...thanks?"

"You're welcome Mr. Renko. The nurse will give you something for the pain if it comes back."

With that the Doctor left the room, and the nurse handed Renko a couple small packages.

"Well. This day is just full of new things, isn't it?" she said. "I suppose it makes sense. I mean...you can manipulate time, so being able to heal faster isn't all that strange."

Stephanie walked over to his chair and planted a soft kiss on his cheek before sliding behind him and pushing him out of the room, "C'mon, lets get you home, cleaned up, and comfortable," she said.

"I suppose so," Renko said, "Every time I try to actually use it on something living it kind of back fires...spectacularly. Like the grass exploding that one time. I'm lucky I'm not some kind of giant humanoid tumor."

"You know you don't have to do any of this even if the bloody kittens are plotting something."

"Mr. Renko....shut up," she said cheerfully, whispering in his good ear before kissing his cheek.

"Do you have your keys on you, or will I need to give the puppy dog eyes to the front desk downstairs?"

"Only if you're a very good boy," she smiled, taking the keys out of his hand and opening up the room for him. She wheeled him in and closed the door.

Renko's room was fairly tidy possibly a side effect of cleaning taking moments. The bed was however unmade, and he'd apparently taken over the room's second desk turning it into a work station of sorts. The second desk had a half-completed something on it, with boxes of parts on the shelves, and tools still out on the desk. The other desk was the study area, it had the laptop, textbooks, etc. The few personal features were a British flag, a Hong Kong flag, some family pictures, a picture of the mechanics at Brassworks, and a few framed news clippings.

"The closet," Renko said, "Should be a basket of toiletries, towel should be on the wall. I'm pretty sure I can walk without too much help."

Renko began getting out of the chair and put the gauntlets on the desk.

"Weird..."

"Maybe you should work, when your head feels better, to make gauntlets with a little more breathing room for your hands," she said, walking over to him and grabbing his hand, "it is nice to be able to touch your bare hands..." she trailed off, her eyes lost in Renko's.

She let go of his hand and backed away a bit, "I'm going to wait for you just outside the showers, make sure you're not going to fall over on me. If any boys try to give me crap about being in their bathroom, I may have to growl at them."

It took a bit for Renko to recover.

"It's nice being able to...I'll have to look into modifying the design."

"Right I'll try not to fall over you try not to traumatize anybody," Renko said pulling off his shirt and tossing it into the basket in the closet, and then took of his pants which followed the shirt. It was about then he realized what exactly he was doing. "Oh, right, ummm...showers. Excuse me."

Renko began walking stiffly down the hall towards the showers. He was running one hand along the wall in case he lost his balance. Though in his "rush" he'd forgotten the basket and his towel.

Stephanie smiled and followed Renko with his towel and shower caddy.

"Mr. Renko. You may find these items useful in your cleansing endeavors, no?" she said sidling up to him as he walked in his boxers down the hallway, hefting his forgotten items.

She pushed open the bathroom door for Renko. "Girl coming in. Deal with it or get out without whining," she called into the bathroom.
