Issue 7: Donkey Konged

[Robert West]

After being found by the paramedics, Rob was rushed to the the infirmary at Xavier University. He spent nearly the entire night in emergency surgery but with the help of several healers was eventually pronounced to be in relatively stable condition for someone who'd been shot a half a dozen times and put in an ICU bed to recuperate.

The only problem right now was that during the surgery the doctor's had found some sort of foreign substance invading his body. It had spread throughout his major organs and was currently fused with his central nervous system. Any attempts to identify it had so far been unsuccessful.

Fortunately, it didn't seem to be doing much damage. In fact from what they could tell, whatever it was inside him was what had managed to keep him alive until he'd been rushed to the emergency teams.

Rob could currently be found resting in his ICU bed.

[Douglas Decker]

Douglas Decker came in with the the test results.

"Awake, then?"

[Robert West]

"Hopefully. If I'm dead, this is a terrible afterlife," Rob said.

[Douglas Decker]

"Good. We were concerned."

[Robert West]

Rob winced. Sitting up hurt more then he thought it would, "Yeah, I'm sure everyone was on the edge of their seats."

[Douglas Decker]

"About these test results, I mean," Doug clarified.

[Robert West]

"Did anyone ever tell you that you have an amazing bed side manner?" Rob asked as he pulled a line out of his arm.

[Douglas Decker]

"No.

Dr. West, you have more experience in this field than I; can you explain these readings?"

[Robert West]

"Can I get some pants on first?" Rob asks, getting out of bed and pulling the hospital gown over his head.

Douglas was only exposed to a nude mad doctor for a moment. Pants seemed to form around Rob out of nowhere.

"...Interesting," Rob said.

[Douglas Decker]

"That was my conclusion, as well."

[Robert West]

Rob took the readings from Douglas.

"Well, here's your problem," Rob said, "I should be dead."

[Douglas Decker]

"And yet you are not."

[Robert West]

Rob rolled his eyes, "I meant, I was shot sixteen times. I had air conditioning introduced to my entire torso."

"But this substance intervened. And the structure..." Rob looked thoughtful, "It looks like the artificial matter project I've been working on."

[Douglas Decker]

"Artificial matter?"

[Robert West]

"Programmable matter," Rob said, "Slightly sentient. I lined my uniform with it before the mission."

[Douglas Decker]

"...that does not seem possible."

[Robert West]

"I was kidnapped and brought to this universe by an alternate universe version of myself," Rob said, "I left possible behind a long time ago."

[Douglas Decker]

"A fair point," Doug admitted.

[Robert West]

"I wonder if it can do anything besides provide pants on demand," Rob wonders, "As useful as that is it has limited application."

[Douglas Decker]

"You could open a clothing store."
