June 12th - Walking on Water

Postby Jennifer Tarasova » Mon Jul 25, 2011 12:40 pm

Jennifer wanted to try something and decided the Danger Room was probably the place to go, since the safeties would keep anything terrible from happening, unlike attempting the same thing at the pool. She was dressed in a one-piece swimsuit with the old XI logo on it. She made some adjustments and then moved to the middle of the room. A small 1 foot square section of land appeared where she was standing and another section of land appeared near where the entrance would be and then the rest of the room changed into miles and miles of water. Jennifer stood on her small section of land, watching the water intently. Anyone paying close attention to the water would see it almost clumping in small sections.

Stephanie needed a chance to get out and run around, and she really didn't feel like prowling campus again, so she headed down to the Danger Room, hoping to find some free time at some point soon. She sighed when she saw that the room was occupied, but saw that the room wasn't locked nor was it a private session, so she tapped on a button in the control room to open the intercom.

"Hi. Would you terribly mind a stranger's company? I need to burn off some steam and...swimming, from the looks of the program, might help," she asked politely.

"Sure, go ahead," Jennifer said, putting her foot out onto the water and testing it experimentally. Her foot wobbled slightly, but didn't sink below the surface.

"Thanks. Be right there," she said through the intercom.

A few moments later, she entered, wearing a swimsuit that she'd grabbed from her locker. Should she need to, it was ready and willing to shift with her, too.

"Sorry to barge in like this. Really needed to distract myself. Running around the DR sounded like a good plan, but talking is a good distraction too. I'm Stephanie," she said, holding out her hand before looking down to see Jennifer standing on top of the water, "And...you're walking on the water."

"Sort of," Jennifer said, pulling her foot back onto land. "I'm Jennifer."

She nodded, "Trying something new. I thought it would be safer to try it here than the pool. Less likely to crack my head or break something if I mess it up."

"Exactly why I came here too. The safeties work wonders, and when I hunt here, I'm about 100% less likely to send someone to the infirmary mistakenly," she chuckled.

"Hunt?" Jennifer asked, taking another experimental step onto the water and then putting her other foot out as well. She was obviously very wobbly.

"I'm a werewolf," she said nonchalantly. "Feral shifting is a bit of a mindjob, so...you kind of need to balance the wants and needs of your animal half if you want to have anything resembling control over yourself and your powers."

"I thought you looked familiar...you went there too, didn't you?" she said, a look of recognition crawling across her face.

"Yes. Like Mr. Davis. I know him and his wife really well, actually. They were huge parts of why I have any sense of control at all," she smiled.

"My friend Trev is trying that. He seems to like it so far. Sorry you didn't have that great of an experience. Hopefully you'll like it here better. It's a really cool city, and if you can put up with the occasional rampaging robot or supervillain, it's not too bad of a place to live. Giant holographic rooms certainly help. Cute guys with accents are even better," she chuckled.

"Supervillains and robots I can live with. It goes with the territory. Cute guys do help somewhat, assuming they don't..." She was cut off mid-sentence with a cry as her concentration gave way and she fell into the water.

Stephanie chuckled at Jennifer's reply before jumping to try and grab her at the cry. While she was late, she was at least able to offer her hand to Jennifer to help her out of the water from the edge.

"The reaction is a lot more satisfying when they aren't prepared for it." She held her hand out and the remaining water streamed out of her hair and down her arm to collect in a ball in the center of her hand.

Stephanie's jaw dropped open at the display. "Oh my gosh. I would kill for that power in the morning getting ready. I love my long hair, but blow-drying it takes forever,"

"Special shampoos for a week," Jennifer said, forcing the ball to twist up into the approximate shape of a shampoo bottle. "And a haircut to handle the stuff the shampoo couldn't save."

"Seems to be a good place, meeting a lot of new people. I think it'll be better once fall classes start." She released the water and it collapsed with a splash, running down through her fingers.

"It will be. Things are just dying down after a really hectic end to the semester. A lengthened semester, I might add," she replied, "Quite a few people go home, or go on extended vacation over the summer. Me? I just work and try to stay current with X-Team training. Have you thought of signing up? Your power seems like it could have some offensive potential."

"That's what the training's for. If I didn't have the metabolism of a shifter and X-Teams practice, I'd probably be 400 pounds from all of the terrible-for-you college food I eat. And that doesn't count the drinking," she chuckled. "Training will whip you into fighting shape in no time flat, pretty much guaranteed."

Jennifer looked back out at the water and a column rose up briefly before the water began shedding off a form. The water construct looked like Stephanie. The facial features weren't detailed, but it was a rough equivalent of her at the very least. Jennifer squinted at the construct, obviously putting some concentration into maintaining it. "Been a long time since I pulled together a complex construct of this size."

Stephanie walked over to get closer and marveled at the detail, "Oh my gosh that's incredible..."

She walked left and right to look at all of the angles she could, smiling in awe. "Want to see if you can use a much bigger and hairier model?" she asked

June 12th - Walking on Water

"Alright," she said tilting her head to crack her neck, "this can get kind of scary if you haven't seen it before, but I promise I'm harmless."

Stephanie sighed and let the change wash over her, her swimsuit almost seeming to disappear into her as fur sprouted everywhere, her bones and muscles rearranged themselves, and her feet and hands grew wicked looking claws.

"I'm thankful every day for whoever came up with this unstable molecule fabric," she said with a wolfish grin.

Jennifer studied her again for a long minute and then water rushed up onto the construct, filling it out. The construct adjusted itself to fit her new bone structure. The water even managed to approximate the larger clumps of fur somewhat, though not down to the individual strands. Jennifer was subconsciously working with her hands as she adjusted the construct, making smoothing motions and pushes here and there.
