“That’s probably a much better plan,” she smirked as she much more competently minced up a clove of garlic and tossed it in the wok.

"You're learning quickly," Renko said, "We can try ginger next, since the preparation is similar to that of ginger. You slice it first, and then mince them."

He cut various slices of ginger, and minced a few himself.

"The peppers are the challenging part," Renko said watching Stephanie closely.

The ginger wasn't particularly uniform in size when she was done with it, but there wasn't any blood in it either, so there was that at least.

"Okay. So how do you cut something like this that has so much roundness," she chuckled, hefting a pepper in her hand, "and isnt this filled with seeds too?"

"Yeah, filled with seeds we'll need to remove," Renko said, "Unless you really like spicy food."

"You cut off the stem, and then cut it in half lengthwise," Renko said cutting off the stem then cutting the pepper lengthwise, "The you cut it in half again."

"Then you scrape the inside to remove the seeds, but you don't want to take too much of the flesh of the pepper out."

Stephanie tried to follow his verbal instructions, and preceded to scrape...with her bare hands.

Renko intervened again taking her hand in his.

"With the knife," Renko smiled, "Peppers can burn your skin, and if you touch your eyes after working with them it's like getting hit by mace."

"Oh. OH," she said, a bit embarrassed. "Good thing we're just in the DR. This still stings a bit even with safeties."

Stephanie resumed scraping, this time with the knife.

Renko took her hand and kissed it before letting her get back to work.

"Sorry, I should have warned you about it. I'm not a very good teacher to tell you the truth."

"The last step is to cut them into cut them into smaller pieces," Renko said, "Now you've got the three bases for your stir fry."

“You’re doing great,” she smiled. “Not like I was all that great of a teacher for you.”

Steph dumped the peppers into the wok. “That was it? Maybe this isn’t as bad as I thought…”

Renko blushed slightly

"You were doing a good job with the materials you had...Cooking is pretty easy once you start getting the hang of it," Renko said telling the computer to provide some basic stir fry ingredients (veggies, shrimp, etc).

"But that was just the first few steps in preparing a stir fry."

“Alright. now what do we do with these? Just dump them in?” she asked, inspecting the bowls of ingredients. “And more importantly…can we get some real food after this, because I’m already starving just looking at this stuff,” she laughed.

It was very strange when the bowl Stephanie was holding suddenly changed to one holding fully prepped ingredients. It was also strange that Renko's gauntlets were glowing bright orange.

"I think I can arrange something for you to eat," Renko said, "But yes you can just put those into the wok since they've been prepped. Once they're in keep them spread out, and stir them around so they don't burn."

“So that’s where the stirring comes in,” she smirked. “I like it better when you cook anyway,” Steph sighed happily, looking down at the bowl of now-prepared food. “So can I take you with me the next time I have to go to a government office or wait in line somewhere? Because that trick is awesome.”

Renko worked on the stir fry, showing Stephanie the basic technique behind it.

"What trick?" Renko smirked. "I'd be more than happy to help you out anytime you needed me to, even if it was a getting you through a queue faster."

Stephanie grinned, "You'd better be careful what you wish for. Between the flattery, the cooking, and the instant-queue, not to mention being not hard on the eyes yourself, you're likely to be hanging out with this wolf girl for quite a while."

Stephanie smiled, set down the small bowl of ingredients she'd still been holding, and gently pulled Renko's face away from the wok he was focused on cooking in. She looked at him, her eyes wide with some mixture of excitement, nervousness, and happiness, and planted a soft kiss on his lips as she draped her arms loosely over his shoulders.

Renko didn't really know what do for a moment as he was a little stunned despite what had happened earlier. Once he recovered he returned the kiss putting one arm around Stephanie's waist. His other hand held loosely onto the spoon he'd been using to mix the stir fry.

Stephanie broke off the kiss slowly, but kept her face near Renko's, her arms still draped over his shoulders. "So...I know it's only been like...two dates," she said softly, "but I was sort of wondering if...well...you might be willing to...you know...date exclusively."

Renko blinked a couple times seemingly deep in thought. Or still stunned. Or maybe it was both.

"I didn't know we had to confirm that," Renko said, "My answer is yes though. I mean if you want too....I wouldn't want to think it was just my decision or something....I think I'm going to shut up while I'm ahead. "

Renko blushed an even deeper shade of red and rubbed the back of his head with the hand he had been stirring the work with.

"Well...I mean..." she said, a bit flustered, "I don't know...we've gone on two dates, and had a lot of fun, but...I don't know. I wanted to be sure you wanted to be more than just friends or something......"

If a telepath were looking at her wolfish counterpart right now, they'd probably see it facepalming.

"God, shut up, Steph...of course I want to, David. You're a great guy, and I like you a lot, and you haven't run away screaming yet," she laughed a bit.

"I like all of you, big bad wolf included...I mean...I'm not very good. I mean I'm not very good at this kind of thing," Renko said before standing there awkwardly, and something finally seemed to click. With that he wrapped his arms around Stephanie and this time initiated this kiss himself.

"A slight benefit of regularly shredding your clothes and having to walk around in next to nothing. Or nothing at all, really, is that my ability to care about what people think about me is pretty severely limited," she smirked, changing the subject. "We signed up for the time, and we're fully clothed, so anyone watching can go pound salt."

"It's a requirement for my own sanity, really," she said. "When you frequently wind up without clothes because of your power, and you're not in full control of your power, and your power often gets triggered by getting stressed out, scared, or angry, and being naked in public does one of those things to you, you can see how it sort of turns into a vicious cycle."

Renko held up one gauntlet.

"They are more of a... focusing device," Renko said, "They keep my power from lashing out randomly instead giving me complete control over how and when they are used.

I need at least one gauntlet at all times or bad things start to happen. Like the bridge when I was in Hong Kong."
