Derek's Room, 6-6 Awkward Conversations

[Melody Martens]

Melody sighed unhappily as she walked up to her boyfriend’s door; she really didn’t want to be having this conversation at all. She couldn’t blame him for anything though—Chloe had seemed like she was telling the truth about it being her fault, and he certainly hadn’t waited all that long to tell her since she found three terse text messages on her phone asking to talk in person when she went back to her dorm room to get it.

Mostly, she felt bad that she’d waited as long as she had to tell Derek about what had happened in the future…

She finally mustered up the courage and took the last few steps towards Derek’s door and rapped several times on it.

Derek answered the door, fresh from the shower after a workout in his shorts with the shirt he'd gotten out laying on his bed where he'd tossed it. He swallowed subtly when he saw Melody, then smiled weakly. "You, ah, got my texts, then?"

[Melody Martens]

"Yeah...we...uh," she stammered, not quite sure how to proceed.

"We need to talk," she finally got out. She remained standing awkwardly at the threshold.

[Derek Scott]

Derek stood silent for a moment, then nodded and let her in, walking over and taking a seat in his desk chair.

[Melody Martens]

Melody sat down gingerly on the edge of his bed after closing the door behind her. "So...yeah...I...well. You want to go first?"

[Derek Scott]

Derek swallowed and nodded. "Well... a few days ago I was in the hot tub after my workout like usual. Chloe came in, and we were talking and... hell, I don't know how it happened, really. I know I slipped and fell under and knocked her under, then I was coughing, and all of a sudden she was kissing me. Don't know why... don't think she did either, really. Seemed pretty freaked out and ran before I could ask her what was up." He gave her an appologetic look. "I would've told you sooner, but you've been busy and hard to find, and... well, yeah."

"I know...I'm sorry I get so wrapped up in school," she said quietly.

"And...I already knew. Chloe found me in the XUB today,"

[Derek Scott]

He sighed. "Damn. I'm sorry, I wanted to tell you before you found out from somewhere else. SHould've just camped outside your room or something."

[Melody Martens]

"It wasn't your fault," she said quietly.

I'll rip that bitch's eyes out if she sets foot near you though....

"And...well I need to tell you something too."

[Derek Scott]

And at this, Derek looked nervous. "I... all right. What is it?" Shit...

[Melody Martens]

"When...when we got trapped in the future," she started to explain, biting her lip and forcing herself to look at Derek instead of the floor in front of her feet. "I...I drank a lot one night. With Daniel Uriel....To try and forget the hellhole that I was in...and...I mean, I almost blacked out and didn't even know where I was and who I was with...and I started making out with him...thinking I was with you. He...he stopped me after I called out your name...I," tears had been welling up in her eyes throughout the explanation and were flowing freely now.

"I've never been as close to someone as you, Derek," she cried, "I...I...you do so many wonderful things for me, and you're my friend, and..."

...and I think I might love you...

[Derek Scott]

Derek blinked in... well, shock. "I... look, Mel, just relax, okay? I mean... how drunk were you? Everyone does stupid stuff when their drunk. I mean, look at me, I've been the king of it."

[Melody Martens]

"But we're together," she cried, "we're boyfriend and girlfriend...doesn't that mean something? Getting drunk doesn't excuse anything."

[Derek Scott]

"Well... didn't you say you thought he was me? I mean... makes things a little different, right? It's not like you were trying to mess around with him, right?"

[Melody Martens]

"Yeah," she said quietly, "I...I guess you're right."

[Derek Scott]

Derek sighed. "C'mere, babe," he said, sliding over to the bed and reaching out for her... though a bit hesitantly, half expecting her to still be mad at him.

[Melody Martens]

Melody practically melted into his arms, letting the tears out. "You're so wonderful," she sniffled.

[Derek Scott]

Derek hugged her, relaxing visibly. "Nah... I'm not that great," he sighed, resting the side of his head against hers. "I'd probably suck to be around if I was wonderful," he added with a little smile.

[Melody Martens]

"I just want to be able to put all of this behind us...I'm so sorry I kept that from you for as long as I did...I was really worried about screwing something up..."
