"Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!" Rachel shouted, apparently hoping to suddenly develop telekenisis and force the ball into the net by sheer force of will.

It was not to be, and a HARD (and not called) foul left Teal Bunbury on the ground, and the counter moving quickly, playing swift, un-English football.

And, as if she was tempting fate, a scorching shot from outside the area blazed past the US goalie.

England 1, USA 0.

"Score.. What's the score?"

Bear hadn't even managed to get all the way out of her X-Men Uniform after her patrol, opting to unzip down to her waistline, peel the material down, and don a colorful t-shirt.

And indeed, the second half started out more in the American's favor, with only a spectacular defensive play stopping three successive shots, leading to an American corner.

The kick...a header...off the hands of the goalie! He leaps to grab it again....and is knocked down by a lunging Agudeo, heading the ball in!

GOOOOOOOOOOooooh wait, what's this? The ref's waving it off for interfering with the goalie!

"Sure, sure, keep up hope!"

And, for a while there, it looked good for the Americans--they were definitley the better side...

...until the 65th minute, when a counterattack charged the other way, and a bit of nifty passing caught the defense flat footed. The shot banged off the post---but back into the goal.

England 2, United States 0, and substitutes were coming on, taking out a defender and a midfielder for TWO strikers, in an odd 3-3-4 formation--an odd formation, for sure.

Bear just looked at the screen and held onto Rachel's hand in return, not as up as her in soccer strategy.

And change it it did. The added winger kept the pressure on, and England subbed in not one, not two, but THREE backs to try to slow the game down.

They clogged. They stalled. They played long ball. And the clock just kept ticking...

Rachel sat watching the screen, almost vibrating with tension. She barely moved, chewing on her lip as she watched, unable to look away.

Soon, it was the 88th minute, with the US still down two goals---but they won a corner.

And, they were sending up goalie Sean Johnson to help in, leaving an open goal. They were selling everything out for an immediate goal.
