Power: Seismic energy/shockwaves: Valdis can emit pulsing energy shockwaves from her hands or her feet, as well as sense seismic energy and vibrations, especially those emanating from deep within the earth’s crust.

Personality: Brave, determined, and naïve. Valdis is convinced that it’s her calling in life to be a superhero, so she can be tough as nails; the flip side is that she’s also stubborn. She’s also deeply pious, and takes her faith in the Norse gods very seriously.

Physical description: Valdis is 5’10, with brown hair, blue eyes and a pale complexion. She generally wears clothing made out of “natural” materials (wool, linen, leather, etc.), and some of it is hand-made.

Background: Valdis was raised in a small village less than an hour’s drive from Reykjavik. Her father, who raised her alone, is a mutant whose sole power is calling forth snow, which has helped him become a successful owner of a small ski resort; the snow can create is much more soft and powdery than what can be found in the rest of the country. As a result, Valdis practically grew up on the slopes.

One weekend morning, as she was about to go skiing, some feeling in the pit of her stomach, a powerful instinct, told her that something was going to go wrong that day, and neither she (nor anyone else, for that matter) would be safe on the slopes. Though he was highly skeptical, she convinced her father to shut down for the day with enough pleading and hysterics. Sure enough, though, an earthquake struck only an hour later, sending a powerful avalanche down one of the slopes. This was the first inkling Valdis had of her powers, and it became apparent that she had saved lives that day with her hunch.

This led to an epiphany for Valdis about what she should do with her life. Not long before her power first manifest itself, she had become a Norse neopagan, truly immersing herself within the faith. The avalanche, to her, was a sign of what she had to do; use her powers to protect others and keep them safe. To this end, she wanted to become a superhero, but was still considered a bit young for the job. At her dad’s request, she completed her secondary education back home before heading to the big city of London to go to college at Xavier’s and learn her intended trade.

(Addendum: Val does not have any actual connection the the Norse gods/Asgardians; they aren't aware of her, and can't hear her if she beseeches them for anything. That'll be for some potential character development later.)
