May 18: Hiding out.

When the raid at the club took place Gerry had been out "procuring supplies", as Needles had put it. Now it didn't seem like Needles was going to be doing much of anything anymore. And for his part neither was he. He had spent the past two days camping out in one of the white vans he'd "borrowed" at the request of his superiors, parking it down an alleyway just out of sight from the street. It was just about time for lunch; a can of cold corned beef hash, a bun of bread and a bottle of whiskey that had been easy to fit in his coat.

[Narrator]

And then his cell phone rang.

"Report," said the voice on the other end of the phone.

[Ropairi]

Gerry's reply was quick in arriving, though as a text message.

shit went down while i was getting a van. the place is trashed. needles is dead. you probably already know all this.

[Narrator]

"Of course we do.

What the hell happened down there."

[Ropairi]

remember those fascists you wanted killed? it didnt happen and instead they busted in and slaughtered half the lot there.

[Narrator]

"We are very disappointed, Ropiari."

[Ropairi]

you think im happy this went down? i handle supplies. i get you the things you want. thats what i do and thats all that i do. if you want some tossers axed youd better recruit some experts next time instead of amateurs from the mutie school.

[Narrator]

"We were hoping a man of your...talents would show some more initiative."

[Ropairi]

everyone has their comfort zones. you want something bigger pinched, done. you want to get a loan from a bank the easy way, done. you want someone roughed up a bit, that might be an option. but the kind of dirty work youre suggesting is a flat out no no matter what youre paying. so id suggest you put me to better work at what im good at instead of trying to fit this square peg in a round bullet wound.

[Narrator]

"We'll be looking for a loan. Can you handle the bookworms?"

[Ropairi]

consider it done.

[Narrator]

"We'll need people like you. We're almost at D-Day."

[Ropairi]

as long as you keep square on your end of the deal youll have people like me at your beck and call.

will need to get a couple of lads together for this and we already have a spare van. no rods necessary if the boys have good enough talents.

[Narrator]

"They've been 'trained' by the best," the voice scoffed.

[Ropairi]

that should be good enough for the kind of resistance facing us. if not theres always plan b.

anything else i can do for you boss?

[Narrator]

"Yes. Look into this Lynn character, if you will--he may need to be...removed."

[Ropairi]

ill see if i can find someone suitable for the job if necessary.
