Nina's Cell

Nina was lying on the floor of her cell, humming to herself as she colored. There wasn't many options for entertainment when you were in custody. Coloring books were better then nothing.

Ryan walked in, not really knowing what he was going to say. But he came in, taking a seat on the bench outside the cell.

"Pretty good," Nina says, "When they found out I didn't murder a bunch of people they were a lot nicer."

"Are you and Rachel okay?"

"Yeah," he said. "It was one of the luckier days out we've had. And neither of us, y'know, got stabbed through the stomach or anything. How are you feeling?"

Nina's smile falls a bit, "...Scared. Depressed. Guilty."

"A lot of stuff I haven't felt in a long time," Nina admits.

"Maybe it's a good thing that you're feeling them, then?" he offered, sounding more like he was guessing than anything.

"I just remember bits and pieces. Like a puzzle. But not one of the good kinds with puppies or ducks," Nina says, "More like one of the bad puzzles with...Hitler or something."

"I remember getting a package and when I opened it," Nina frowns, "She was from the future and she tried to kill me, I think. I had to leave my body behind and come back from a handful of probes."

Ryan frowned. "And I don't see how the package would've said who sent it, with something like that in it," he sighed. "More mysteries. Great, huh."

"...I think I'm going to drop out of the medical program," Nina says.

"Backup plan," Nina says happily, "Professional racecar driver or an astronaut."

"...I haven't updated my career plan since I was eight," Nina admits.

Ryan had to grin at that. "You'll think of something," he said, feeling confident about it. And if she decided to go back to medicine, he'd tell her to go for it. Right now, after the trauma, he'd let her decide whatever she would decide without putting in any arguements.
