May 10th - Lunch

Mizuki's sitting at a table by herself, eating lunch, her cutlery unbent, a fact that's she's maybe a little too proud of.

The boy had the unmistakable look of someone who was utterly out of his element. He'd been pushed around through the lunch line by people who knew what they were doing and were more familiar with what was up there than him, and he seemed hesitant to sit anywhere... either he'd be alone, which was bad, or he'd be with groups of people he didn't know who might not want him there, which was bad...

...Maybe it was that Mizuki looked like the least threatening person in the cafeteria (in some regards). But the boy in sunglasses ended up across from her looking around nervously. "Um.. do you mind if I sit here?" he asked.

"Oh, you aren't taking classes right now either?" Ross asked, a little surprised. "And that dorm is horrible. I feel like an idiot, but I keep getting turned around and not being able to find the stairs."

Ross winced. "Sorry to hear that," he said. "And I'm not either," he admitted. "I just... sort of had to come here."

He smiled a little at that. Then, looking nervously back and forth first, he looked back at her. "Can... you keep a secret?" he asked, more quietly. He needed to tell someone and she wasn't even a student yet, so she wouldn't go ratting him out, right?

"well, it's why I'm here," he admitted. "They... said I needed to come here to learn to be a better superhero. Like, everyone back home. After there were these guys who were trying to blow up... y'know what? I don't know what it was! Maybe it was the bridge. That sounds right, actually. There weren't any buildings around that were worth anything. And I stopped them. And everyone was making a big deal, and it was on the news, and... y'know, wow!, right? And... I still can't believe this happened, but I was at the bank to drop off a paycheck, and I'm waiting in line, right? And then these guys come in to rob it! And... well, the security guard went to shoot at them, and they went to shoot back at them, and then... well, the guard and this guy, they told the news and the bank manager how I jumped in front of the guy with the gun so the security guard didn't get shot! And they were all happy about it, the news and everything again, the bank's owner was ecstatic because they saved a lot of money that way... they even cancelled my parents' mortgage! They were behind, and the bank just said 'know what? It's all good, the house is yours.'" Despite the fact that this all seemed like good news, Ross looked particularly more and more distressed as he went on.

He leaned a little closer, looking pained as he went on. "I didn't mean to!" he almost whispered. "The guy that was trying to blow the bridge? He grabbed me and then the charge got stuck to my shirt when I got away from him! And I tripped in front of the guy robbing the bank! But when you can have something explode under you and get shot and not even need stitches, everyone thinks you're a big superhero! And if they find out, the bank'll take the house away, because no one gives you something like that for tripping! So now they're all expecting me to be learning how to be a big superhero or something here!"

"Well yeah, but... they're all expecting me to be saving the town and stuff, and I don't know how! And my mom wouldn't even sign the stupid form to let me do the X-Men thing, so I can't even do any training stuff until fall! And holy crap, where did you come from!" he exclaimed, noticing Rose when he saw Mizuki look over at her.

"Dunno... I never really thought I would but then I totally saved my friend Mira from kidnappers and that was pretty awesome! Though she's the Phoenix now and I don't think she needs my help with kidnappers anymore."
