"Oh, that's Chloe!" Lucy said brightly. "She's my twin sister. Or... what do you call your sister when you're triplets? Because we have another sister, only she's with Dad in Australia right now for some dumb reason. Only I'm their sister from one of those weird universes that people've been popping in from where they had a third sister, because in this one there was only two of us born, so it's a good thing I was the one who fell in here because there wasn't already a me here to start with. So I'm trying to keep her out of trouble now, because she's kind of the clumsy one sometimes, and the pretty one, but she's a big superhero so I'm proud of her! She taught me how to turn into a bird!"

"A gallah's like a big pink cockatoo. I guess that's what Jessie turns into, too- weird that I don't, you know? And a budgerigar is like, oh, what's that kind that you Yanks like? Parakeets! That's it! I think maybe they're a kind of parakeet. Or parakeets are a kind of budgie. Or maybe I'm just totally wrong and they're both just different kinds of something else."

"Chloe said that Jessie could turn into something else, but I didn't ever see that, and she said that she could turn into a wolf once, but that was because she was a werewolf then, so I don't really think that counts, because if you're a werewolf anyone can turn into a wolf, you know? Unless... I wonder if the wolf had feathers? No, probably not, that would be silly."

But I don't know what else to call them, that would just make such a good picture, and I just met you so I would usually wait to ask something like that so I'm sorry."

Lucy nodded enthusiastically. "Like, pose for me? I'm an art student and people tell me that my paintings turn out really well and I don't know about that, I just end up with reeeeally good models, you know? But it's fun to do so I like finding new things to paint and new people to paint but you don't have to if you don't want to, it's really not a big deal."
