Name: Ross Jacobson
Age: 17
Power: Physical energy focusing – Ross’s power manifests as an occasional golden glow in his pupils. He can, potentially, use it for a variety of purposes, such as flight, super strength, energy blasts… and he has no idea how to do any of that. He has no idea that he COULD do it, either (I just listed them in case anyone wanted to know). What he does know is that he’s invulnerable. Someone punches him, it doesn’t hurt him. Well, it might hurt, but it doesn’t damage him. He can’t be cut, burned, broken… well, you get the picture.
Personality: Have you ever met one of those people who’s solution to everything is a complex plan that makes you want to say “are you serious?” That’s Ross. If he forgets to give someone their book back, while your solution might be to knock on their door and say “Hey, I forgot, here’s your book,” Ross’s plan would be to lure them away from their room, sneak in, sneak the book into their bag, and hide under the freaking bed when they come back unexpectedly. All night. And not because he’s worried about anything, it just makes more sense to him that way for some freaking reason.
Description: Average height, about 5’8”, with brown eyes and blonde hair. Slim build, but not scrawny.
Background: Ross’s power developed a year ago… and he didn’t think he had any powers. Just eyes that he could make light up (which admittedly looked pretty cool). It wasn’t until much, much later that he found out that he really did have something going for him. That would be the day that he stumbled into a tragedy in the making. Someone (people said terrorists. Were they? Who knows. The papers liked saying ‘terrorists,’ so that’s what stuck) decided to take hostages in an office building where Ross had happened to stop in to use the restroom. The hostage-taker had a bomb, and was threatening people with it, and was in the midst of promising to kill everyone when he caught glimpse of an accidental flash from Ross’s eyes. Thinking that Ross had taken a picture, or had something dangerous, or maybe he was just angry, he grabbed Ross and yanked him to his feet. No one was sure what happened next except Ross. As he stumbled to his feet, his hand caught in the man’s shirt, and for a moment it looked like they were struggling for control of the bomb. In truth, Ross’s sleeve had gotten stuck on a wire of the bomb and they were both struggling to free it, each of them making matters worse, but it looked like they were fighting over it. In the end, Ross ended up with the bomb and stumbled outside and on top of it, when the bomb went off… and was utterly muffled by Ross’s invulnerable body.
A week later, Ross happened to be dropping off his paycheck to be deposited when someone came in to rob the bank. A security guard went lunging for his gun, and the robber opened fire, just as Ross turned toward the sudden commotion to see what was going on… effectively placing himself in the bullets’ paths, accidentally saving the security guard’s life. To everyone looking, though, in the confusion, it looked like a heroic save, especially when the guard returned fire and disabled the robber.
Ross was praised for his ‘heroic’ efforts, and on learning that his parents were about to lose their house because they were behind on their second mortgage, the bank cancelled the loans completely out of gratitude. And Ross, not wanting to risk them losing this unexpected good fortune, announced that he’d be going to the Xavier University to further his education and further train to be a better superhero… only secretly, he was going so that he could buy time to learn just how to be a superhero at ALL!
