May 6th: Lunch is totally Goth.

[Isabel Galen]

Isabel was sitting at a table, eating her lunch, looking a bit drained from her clinic shift.

[Victoria Valentine]

"Mmm, someone looks tired," Victoria mused as she sat down with the meal she'd reheated before coming in.

[Isabel Galen]

"It was a long shift." Isabel replied

[Victoria Valentine]

Victoria winced. "Poor thing. Infirmary?"

[Isabel Galen]

"Yeah. Nothing horrible, but a couple of broken bones and a burn." she sighed "I had to put down a rat."

[Victoria Valentine]

This wasn't, naturally, something that would cause distress for Victoria. But it was obviously something that bothered the girl more than she let on. "I'm sorry to hear that," she said, honestly. She offered her hand when the girl had her hands free for a moment. "Victoria."

[Isabel Galen]

"Isabel."

[Victoria Valentine]

"Good to meet you," she said, starting back on her own food. "Surprised I haven't seen you up there, actually. It usually feels like I have the full staff up there staring at me whenever I'm up there," she added, not unhumorously.

[Isabel Galen]

"I only deal with the people who are sick or hurt." Isabel said "I can't do much if you're body's doing what its supposed to."

[Victoria Valentine]

"And you're not one to stare, either. Good to know," Victoria said with a smile.

[Isabel Galen]

"Should I be?"

[Victoria Valentine]

"Most people seem to be."

[Isabel Galen]

"Most people are stupid."

[Victoria Valentine]

Victoria grinned. "Where have you been hiding during my whole life's search for someone who agrees with me?" she joked.

[Isabel Galen]

"Hiding."

[Victoria Valentine]

Victoria paused to look at the girl, then nodded. "All right," she said, smiling a little to show she wasn't upset. "Sorry to have bothered you," she added as she picked up her food to go.

[Isabel Galen]

"You don't need to go." Isabel said hastily. "Sorry, I'm not very good at being social. Especially after work."

[Victoria Valentine]

Victoria looked back, a bit surprised, and studied the girl for a second. Then she sat down again. "Sorry," she said. "I suppose I'm just not at my best right now."

[Isabel Galen]

"Its been a rough year." Isabel replied.

[Victoria Valentine]

"And it's only May," Victoria said sadly. "I can only imagine what wonderful things will crop up by the end of the summer."

[Isabel Galen]

"We'll burn that bridge when we get to it, I guess."

[Victoria Valentine]

"So I do get to burn something this year? At least there's that to look forward to," Victoria reasoned.

[Isabel Galen]

"Joy." Isabel said "I gotta help clean up the mess. But have fun with that."

[Victoria Valentine]

"Well, I was going to be fatalistic, but your stunning display of optimism has turned me around," Victoria mused, not unkindly or unhumorously.

"Good thing. Fatalists are too damn cheerful."
