Late night, Apr. 28 - Divining by firelight

[Daniel Uriel]

Daniel held out his hands in a 'well, see?' manner. "It's only stupid if it doesn't work."

[Kyra Raphael]

"So they say." Kyra replied with a wry smile.

[Daniel Uriel]

"And they're very smart. But what I meant was... well, all of this," he said, gesturing at the fire and the fading images inside it. "No idea what the point of doing any of it was."

[Kyra Raphael]

"Well, at least you know who she is now."

[Daniel Uriel]

Daniel shrugged. "Yeah, but so what? It doesn't change anything, I don't know anything about myself that I didn't know before."

[Kyra Raphael]

"Its one more piece of the puzzle, anyway." Kyra replied "Thats how it was for me, anyway."

[Daniel Uriel]

"Yeah, but it's a pretty useless piece of the puzzle," he said. "End of the day, what do I have that I didn't have before? A burned hand."

[Kyra Raphael]

"Wow, that didn't take long."

[Daniel Uriel]

"What didn't?"

[Kyra Raphael]

"For you to cycle from 'I'm king of the universe' to 'I suck.'."

[Daniel Uriel]

"I don't suck, I just don't know why I went to all this trouble. It's not like I'm doing anything with knowing it."

[Kyra Raphael]

"Some things are just worth knowing."

[Daniel Uriel]

"I burned my hand for it," he said, smirking a little. "Maybe I am crazy."

[Kyra Raphael]

"I could have told you that."

[Daniel Uriel]

"Yeah, but you think everything I do is dumb, so that doesn't count," Daniel said dismissively.

[Kyra Raphael]

"Only about half, actually."

[Daniel Uriel]

"The half that doesn't agree with your almighty opinion of How The World Is," he clarified.

[Kyra Raphael]

"That would be the half." Kyra said, not rising to the bait.

[Daniel Uriel]

Daniel just nodded, not following up on it. Times like this, he didn't know whether he wanted to shout at her or kiss her. So he settled for option three... he just started forcing himself into apathy again. It was easier that way. And he was good at it, by now.

[Kyra Raphael]

"Anyway." Kyra said, the forced apathy making her wince internally "I'll see you around. I'm meeting Bobby for dinner." she added, twisting the knife a little.

[Daniel Uriel]

"Wow," he mused, "You went about twenty minutes without reminding me I'm inferior. Gotta be a record or something."

[Kyra Raphael]

"You're not inferior." Kyra said, almost automatically.

[Daniel Uriel]

"Go away, Kyra," he said without any inflection to his voice, without even looking up from the fire. "I've got a long night of sitting here looking at fire to get to."

[Kyra Raphael]

"Already gone." Kyra said, wings flapping as she lifted off into the air.

[Daniel Uriel]

Daniel just shook his head, a feeling of utter disgust at... who? Him? Kyra? Hard to tell, as it washed over him.
