Issue 1 Downtime

Renko was sitting on a rock tinkering with something. Stephanie had asked him to come along and chaperon so he had. He just really wasn't sure what to do outside in the woods other than sit there and watch the students or patrol around the camp site.

"Whatcha doin?" Jason asked, popping up seemingly out of nowhere.

The small tool Renko was using snapped in half as he flinched at Jason's sudden arrival. He was working on a cylindrical device with no discernible purpose.

"Bloody damn hell," Renko announced, "Have you ever considered not jumping out of the shadows?"

"... sorry..." he said sheepishly.

"Ooo... what's that... thingy?" he asks curiously.

Renko closed one hand around the tool and his gauntlet glowed dully.

"It's a universal tool," Renko said, "You can use it to say open a lock, turn screws, and so on. Provided it works like it is supposed to. This is my third attempt."

Renko smiled.

"Give it time," Renko said, "Years of studying don't come over night...excluding those with intellects boosted by their mutation of course."

"It was Jason wasn't it?"

"Jason will do. Never really understood using code names over given names," Renko said, "I'm David 'Chronos' Renko."

Renko placed the now whole tool into a pocket before offering his hand to Jason.

"You know your mythology," Renko smiled. "But yes that's what I can do. Keeps me from needing to buy replacement tools."

"No," Renko said, "I can slow time down, speed it up, make an object age thousands of years in a day and then make it like new."

"Even if I could, I do not believe that I would want to be responsible for the fate of our time line."

"Right, but that doesn't mean you have to do it," Renko said, "Not everybody is built to do what the X-Men do. I'm still not sure I'm built for it."

"That's why you're at the institute," Renko said, "From what I've been told there's no place better to get a grip on your powers. I wish I'd had the opportunity to attend, but instead I got private tutoring from X-Corp's Hong Kong branch."

"Well, it still seems to have worked out fairly well," Renko said. "Just don't quite have the experience that somebody like Stephanie does."

"Oh, I still went to a.... normal school," Renko said, "I only received power tutoring from X-Corp."

"What's school like in Hong Kong anyway?"

"For me? Spent mostly with the children of businessmen and members of the diplomatic corp," Renko said, "So people from all over the world. Was always a bit strange walking into class and hearing maybe a dozen different languages being spoken."

"It was," Renko said, "A bitt less so once everybody knew I was a mutant. Really it's kind of like XU or the institute. Both have a bit of every part of the world being represented."
