Name: Niles “Artificer” Radcliff
Country of Origin: England
Age: 18

Power: Matter Emission.
He can create objects of energy from his hands. The objects are solid and can interact with other physical objects but have no "blasting" power. The exact make up of the objects are unknown but they are made up of millions of microsopic “building blocks” of energy. The properties of the created object depend on how they are interconnected. The blocks themselves seem to be almost indestructible but the connections between them is where they will fail if under enough stress. The created objects will not conduct electricity, dissolve in acids, or be much effected by hot or cold. The objects also stand up relatively well to forms of kinetic energy. They are however more effected by things like energy blasts which seem to temporally disrupt the bonds. The individual building blocks have a purple tint to them the created objects are also purple, the darkness of which depends on how densely packed the objects are, when forming/dissolving they area where they will be/were glows bright purple for a bit.

The total amount he can manipulate at once is around 28 pounds worth of the material. He could make a suit of armor but one with sufficient toughness would take almost his whole supply. If he is using armor he ussally restricts it to a helmet and a vest. For weapons he can make a variety of melee weapons such as swords and maces but most commonly relies on a rapier and throwing knives.

The energy will only last a limited amount of time if he is not in close proximity to it after which it “dissolves” into nothing (<1000ft fine, 1000-1500ft starts to slowly weaken and dissolve will last an a few hours, 1500-2500ft considerably weakens and dissolves fast will last around half hour to a hour , 2500-5000 will last only minutes, >5000 will last only seconds) .

The size, complexity, and “molecular” structure of the items determine how hard is for him to create the objects, but once created it takes little to no effort to maintain them. Certain things he “remembers” from creating them multiple times can be easily created almost instantly. He can “dismiss” the forms rather easily at will. While creating or dismissing the forms he needs to be able at to concentrate long enough to create or dismiss the form.

Mentally he can not move the objects or change their shape once they are formed. The objects can be moved or changed by external forces. Mechanical devices can be made of multiple individual forms but he has to create each piece one at a time.

The properties of the material vary by how it was formed, he can currently make metal, crystalline, and plastic type structures. In a “metal” form the material is stronger than titanium but doesn't come near admantium. In crystalline form it reaches about 9.5 on the Mohs scale but is somewhat brittle. In plastic form it is slightly stronger than lexan.

Personality: He isn't particular outgoing but does like to hang around with friends. Though he isn't a complete recluse he needs some time to himself more often than most. He enjoys taking mechanical things apart to see how they work and sometimes tries to create “formed” versions of them. He is bright but not a genius, his grades suffer since he is somewhat of a slacker who doesn't put much effort into things that don't interest him.

Description: Niles is 5'10” with a slender build, he is fairly good but not great shape. He is Caucasian with Black hair and brown eyes. He isn't very fashion conscious and tends to wear comfortable but rather drab clothes that let him blend in rather than sticking out.

Background: Niles has lead a fairly normal life up until this point and kept his mutant power a secret from all but his closest friends and family until recently. Only from the urging of his younger sister Colette did he finally decide to attend the Institute. His father Frank is a machinist, while his mother Melody is a pottery artist that often does odd jobs when need to help make ends meet.

I like the idea. Just to clarify, do the artifacts he creates have similar chemical properties to the real thing? i.e. could he make something like a wooden branch to form a torch, or gunpowder that would ignite?

No they don't have the chemical properties of the real thing. I was thinking as if he had a bunch of little building blocks of some unknown material that he can arrange in certain ways. All the particles are the same thing, he can just arrange the connections between them in different ways to get different structural properties. I guess it would be best to think of them as a bunch of microscopic nanobots made of some form of energy. The particles themselves seem to be almost indestructible but the connections between them is where they will fail if under enough stress. I think they wouldn't conduct electricity or dissolve in acids, or be much effected by extremes of hot or cold. Since they are meant to mimic solid matter, they do that well and can stand up to kinetic forces easily, however things like energy blasts would have more of an effect on them than normal versions of what they are mimicking.

So he can create an "unidentified substance" with a few choices of properties in terms of mimicking metal, plastic, and the like, and his creations only exist temporarily depending on concentration and how far away they travel? That sounds good to me. If you can clarify the original post and put in a guideline for how much phantom substance he can maintain at a time (a sword, a suit of armour, a battering ram, or what have you) that should be all I need for an approval.

I'll give approval also contingent on making changes to the first part of the app, so whichever mod sees that that's been done, feel free to set Niles up right away.

Okay, I've edited the first post.
