Barbara "Binary" Chronopolis

Name: Barbara Chronopolis
Codename: Binary
Country of Origin: Canada
Age: 34
Position: Science and Engineering Faculty, Sysadmin
Physical Description: Barbara has matured well and while she looks her age she is in excellent condition. She's as tall as ever (190cm) and has maintained her athletic physique in spite an office-bound life in recent years. Her skin is pale and contrasted by her straight black hair, though both are well within the normal range for humanity. What's abnormal about her appearance are her eyes, which start a solid black and fade gradually to gray with no apparent iris, and her hands, each of which has a second thumb instead of a pinky finger. The exceptionally observant may also notice that she has no hair on her arms, legs, or other visible skin (aside from eyebrows and scalp). Her clothing is well cut and fairly conservative most of the time, though she does get a secret pleasure of dressing up when the occasion comes up.
Power Description: Binary's most impressive power is that of cyberkinesis. She is able to mentally interface with and control virtually any device that has a microchip processor in charge of it's functions. Her range varies depending on the number of devices she's thus controlling, the amount of control she's exerting, and so on. Over the years she has developed quite an assortment of compact gadgets and tends to carry a small arsenal of devices. She even has a number of cybernetic implants to augment her natural abilities, though precisely how many and what they do is not common knowledge.
It is unknown just how far Binary's cyberkinetic control has grown. She rarely appears strained by her efforts and has demonstrated impressive range and finesse in the past. Based on anecdotal evidence, even advanced encryption protocols rarely slow her down and she is able to manipulate electronics as far as several city blocks away.
The most extreme use of her power involves actually possessing an electronic device. She can fully transfer her consciousness into anything with sufficient processing power to support her mind (in this case, a calculator, watch, or cell phone would be too "small", even a PDA would be pushing it. Computers are fair game, as are most networks). While possessing an object, she has no awareness of her body, which leaves it totally vulnerable. For this and other reasons, she rarely goes to that extreme.
Barbara also has some secondary abilities, both as side effects of her cyberkinesis and due to her unique physiology. Physically, her eyes can naturally see further into the infrared and ultraviolet spectrums when compared to humanity, and her night vision is excellent. Her extra thumbs give her a versatile and strong grip. Mentally, she is usually in a sort of meta-conscious state and has almost complete control over her mind and her body. This makes her highly resistant to empathic manipulations and a challenge to interact with telepathically; her mind seems to be tuned to a different frequency, so while surface thoughts may come through clearly, deeper levels of consciousness are very difficult to penetrate. Meta-conscious control over her body is a big part of how she stays in shape, by carefully monitoring and tuning her metabolic rate, immune system, and so on. While she doesn't have superhuman physical abilities, she is able to perform at what could be considered the peak of normal humanity.
History: Barbara came to Xavier's Institute for Higher Education as a runaway. She fled her small town home when her parents wanted to delay enrolling in Xavier's, but quickly reconciled with her family after making it to the school. She grew steadily more sociable with the other students, especially with Domanic, who rapidly became her best friend. While Lumis was generally a good influence on the shy girl to become more confident, he wasn't always the best role model and was also the source of many of her troubles.
After graduation, Barbara left Xavier's for a variety of reasons. She stayed on good terms with Charles and the X-Men but needed some space and time to grow and explore the world. She worked in France and Germany in a variety of technical positions, always with cutting edge technology. She's paid many visits to consult with Beast or Forge on new ideas and systems and has developed a particularly good friendship with Forge.
These days, Barbara is a confident, calm woman with a strong presence. She's levelheaded almost to a fault and carefully rational about life. While on the surface a law-abiding person, she's more concerned about doing what makes sense or what is right rather than what is legal. As far as most people can tell, there is not a single byte of information about her available on the public internet aside from her business connections. Some records exist: date of birth, Canadian citizenship, and the like, but there is a remarkable dearth of information, even in supposedly secure government databases. It is rumoured that some intelligence agencies have resorted to maintaining a handwritten, paper dossier on Binary, but surely that is exaggeration..
She was pleased to be invited to participate in Xavier's new university campus and was instrumental in the installation of the more esoteric equipment, including the restricted-access Danger Room facilities. Her son, Primus, keeps her too busy for superheroics, but she has managed to balance motherhood with teaching and still keeps her own consulting and development companies operating in the global market.
