Kaylee Williams

Postby Kaylee Williams » Tue Mar 31, 2009 4:43 pm

Name: Kaylee “Outbreak” Williams
Age: 18

Power:
Kaylee’s mutant ability is that her body attracts, draws in, feasts on, then alters micro-organisms not native to her body making mutated versions of the diseases, germs, viruses and sometimes even her own creations. Her body is no less a giant vessel, harboring the mutated micro-organisms it’s created in and her body.

The altered organisms are nothing more usually than normal micro-organisms, diseases or illnesses in overdrive that bring about symptoms a lot faster and more intense than if someone was inflicted normally. She could infect people with things that would quickly give them headaches, itch, cover them in hives, or by now and with her knowledge make ones that could counteract diseases and make people no longer sick. Etc. They show themselves in sort of that symbiotic covering on her body which she can spread out along things or people she touches or make go airborne from there. The longer they're in contact with the things the faster it'd spread. Even though the illnesses are stronger they don't last very long away from her body and even if they had infected someone would probably stop spreading as soon as contact was lost with her and die shortly after. Usually lasting no longer than two minutes.

Harboring the organisms takes a large amount of energy from Kaylee and she’s prone to sleeping a lot or eating a ridiculous amount food despite her small frame.

Personality: It depends. Normally, she’s outgoing, playful, and a little of a tomboy. She enjoys being out and about and around people, probably to counteract her previous isolation from people. However, when her body’s feeding or she’s covered in mutated organisms, she tends to be quiet, distant, and somewhat irritable.

Description: Kaylee is about 5’8”, 130 pounds, dark brown hair, green eyes. Her style tends to be modern and with the newest lines. When her power’s acting up or feeding, she tends to dress extremely covered up.

Background:

Kaylee was just a typical teenager until her power caused a giant scare to the school one day in the cafeteria. The event left a faculty member sent the hospital after touching Kaylee, trying to calm her down, leaving him with his arm covered in large, hives. She was escorted out and taken the hospital and quarantined. After some tests they determined that nothing was wrong with Kaylee health wise. Her body was covered in micro-organisms like any other person but the sheer amount on her was astounding but none seemed to be having any ill-effects on her.

At the most, she was determined to just be a mutant and was registered. However, that didn’t make them release her any quicker. She was kept there for about month and a half before finally some pressure from her parents and enough information confirmed she wasn’t that much of a hazard. She was given some requirements upon release and when she was brought back, home schooled.

Generally depressed with her isolation, her life didn’t seem too happy at home. Her parents did their best to take care of her and make things comfortable. Her parents became extremely protective and only helped shun other people from her life more than her power did. Her mother, soon noticing the toll this was taking on her child, eventually looked into places that could help and soon came across the Xavier’s Institute where she learned to control her powers and brought herself to living a normal life. After graduation, she looked for additional and productive things to do with her power. She soon found herself in Scotland, working on Muir Island where her power was used as a test subject for trying counteract many illnesses and diseases. After about a year and hearing the opening of Xavier University she quickly applied.

My first concern with this application is that we've had a rash of mutants with 'weird' appearances and psyches. So much so that the 'very inhuman mutant' catagory is getting diluted.

I have no problem with a disease-controller or bacteria oriented power. But it would be good to see more mutants that are at least nominally human in appearance, or at least in physiology. Otherwise everyone will be 'weird' mutants and nobody will.

She looks completely plenty normal now. At first, she couldn't control it and the bacteria went rabid. It was only due to her body overfeeding. She can control that aspect of her power now. She would only look crazy probably if she's fighting.

Also, getting a job on Muir Island, which is a fairly high level research facility, straight out of highschool, and purely on the strength of her mutation, seems like a bit much. Also, it isn't entirely clear how she isn't making anyone she comes into contact with violently ill.

Otherwise, I'd like to echo what Dom said about needing more people who are closer to basline humans.

Oh come on, there aren't many 'very inhuman mutants'. :(

In light of what Rachel suggested, I'd like to hear more about her time at Muir and what position Kaylee held or skills she developed there.

Also, while you're very detailed about how her mutation looks, acts, and has progressed, I'm a little unsure of what her capabilities and limitations are. If you could go into a bit more detail with that it'd be very helpful.

Indeed. The powerset is nice and I'm fine with the history (expanding on the Muir segment would be nice but not crucial for me unless yout want to start off with the equivalent of a medical degree, which would be more problematic). From what I see, the character would be just as interesting with a normal human physiology (bones, muscles, circulatory system) but infested with all manner of microbes.

Yeah, normal human physiology would be awesome. Infested with microbes of all types? No problem, there's all kinds of fluid systems and soft tissue for that to be happening in.

Wow. Lots of feed back. Let me get to responding!

Actually, that's exactly how I view her. She's not like some colony of bacteria or something that's a blob moving around. She looks completely normal looking but when using her powers or her body is overloaded with the mutates (which is what happened when her power first manifested) it covers her skin much like the symbiote suit of Venom's and that's what she's controlling. I guess I worded her description pretty badly. Sorry.

That is the same reason why she doesn't make everyone ill she's in contact with. It's all hiding under her body until she goes to use her power. Even then, she can pretty much control what it's doing and where it spreads.

Very true about the Muir stuff. Honestly, I saw her more as a test subject there rather than someone working as an equal or fellow scientist. I thought it would be nice if she did something productive with her powers and thought Muir would be a good choice because of the center seemed fairly mutant friendly and good with working with their powers like that. I didn't know how hard it was to get into or how willing they would be to do something like that though so if it's an issue, I have absolutely no problems just taking it out.

As for what she'd learn there if it went through, I think she would of learned more about how her power works and the type of bacteria she's handling and carrying. So I think she would learn quite a bit of microbiology in general sense but nothing worthy of having a degress already. That would probably be her major at XU though.

Sorry for two posts. I didn't want to make a really giant one.

As for her capabilities she can pretty much make overdrived versions of normal micro-organisms, diseases or illnesses which bring about symptoms a lot faster and more intense than if someone was inficted normally. So she could infect people with things that would quickly give them headaches, itch, cover them in hives, or by now and with her knowledge make ones that could counteract diseases and make people no longer sick. Etc. They show themselves in sort of that symbiote covering on her body which she can spread out along things or people she touches or make go airbourne from there. The longer they're in contact with the things the faster it'd spread. Even though the illnesses are stronger they don't last very long away from her body and even if they had infected someone would probably stop spreading as soon as contact was lost with her and die shortly after. I'm thinking no longer than a two minute life span.

For limitations, I see her biggest one is that she can actually run out of the mutated organisms and if she didn't pull them back onto her it would take some time for her body to create more. Probably about a half an hour at the least and that if she was focusing her power on making it. For others, I haven't really came up with many. When she was younger, she probably had a lot more. One was she couldn't stop her body from making more and more mutated organisms, the altered illnesses with die off very quickly (probably seconds after leaving her body), she had very little control over how the illnesses worked or what they did, and how many she could hold or create. If I need to bring any of those back, I don't really mind.

I hope that covers everything. If you need more specifics, let me know. :)

I did want her to be fairly thin but that is a little extreme I agree. Thanks. I'll put her 130lbs instead.

Thanks for the approval! ^_^
