Issue 1 Downtime

Lily sat at one of the tables in the dining hall, sipping some tea and generally looking very tired.

She realized she should probably eat while she was actually awake, but without her brother around to remind her to get actual food she was having trouble finding the energy.

At least the tea was good.

Trev wandered near Lily and picked a table not far from her to sit down. He seemed to be paying more attention to something on one of the TVs hanging form the wall, however, and instead of setting down his tray quietly, managed to slam his shins into the bench of a cafeteria table and send his tray and its contents lurching across the table.

"Sonofa-!" Trev stopped himself, remembering he was supposed to be a role model while he was here.

Lily glanced in the direction of the outburst, letting out a heavy sigh before gathering up some napkins and heading over to where Trav was. Slowly and wordlessly, she started helping him mop up the mess.

"Hey," Trev said sheepishly, almost blushing a bit as he took some of his own napkins and starting cleaning up as well. "Sorry about that. Thank you. I'm Trev,"

"It's not a problem," Lily mumbles.

An awkward moment passes.

"Lily."

"You new at Xaviers?" he asked, trying to make some smalltalk to cut through the awkward pause.

"I think so," Lily says, "I've been here....a week? Or three. No more then a month."

"...I think."

"So exciting here that you can't even remember how long you've been here, eh?" he smiled cheerfully.

"Something like that," Lily says, "Are you a student here? You look kind of...old."

Trev chuckled. "I go to XU. Just here visiting, so to speak."

"What's XU?"

"It's pretty much the college version of this school," he smiled. "Pretty cool. Beats the heck out the school I went to last year."

"So, if you're in college, why are you hanging around the high school?" Lily asks, "You're not some sort of creep, are you?"

Trev laughed, though a bit nervously, "No, no no. There's a bunch of us who come here, stay for a few weeks, and then go back to school. It's basically just to help the teachers out and keep you guys safe."

"Safe from what? The embarrassment of being such failures we have to get shipped off to the 'special' school?" Lily asks.

"Whoa whoa whoa, none of that now," Trev scolded. "No one here is a failure. We're all here because we are special. Seriously. It takes time, effort, and talent to learn to control your gifts, and a place like this is perfect for it." He rose from the floor with his tray and set it aside on the table, sitting down backwards on the bench and indicating the bench across the aisle from him for Lily to have a seat as well.

Lily sat across from Trev, "I don't want to learn to control anything. I like sleeping. I'm fine with it."

"Sleeping? What do you mean?" Trev asked.

"I have the amazing mutant ability to fall asleep," Lily says dryly, "It's incredible."

"Is there more to it than that, or are you just oversimplifying like I usually do when I tell people that I yell really loud?" he smirked.

"Nope. That's it," Lily says, "I'm a mutant narcoleptic."

"Does anything else happen when you sleep?" he asked.

"I dream," Lily says, sipping her tea, "That's pretty much it."

"Just dreaming? Well hell, even if it's just that, that's special to me. I hardly ever remember my dreams."

"That's too bad," Lily says, "I prefer dreams. Things are amazing in dreams. You can do anything there."

"Then you wake up and it's just...boring."

"The only dream i really vividly remember happened when I was like six. It was terrifying. Some appliances in the house started to like...come alive and chase me." Trev chuckled.

"That sounds really interesting," Lily says.
