After Orientation: Midnight Snack

[Dana Lawrence]

It was a good thing that the Institute was used to it's students keeping odd hours. Dana was up and wandering the grounds at night and stopped by the dining hall for a late night snack.

Getting some hot chocolate and a cookie, Dana sat down at a table and enjoyed her snack.

[Alex Carpenter]

As if the day hadn't had enough indignity, Alex couldn't sleep. ANd when he finally was tired enough to sleep, he was too hungry to sleep. So, he did what any self-respecting teenage boy would do.

He went to raid the fridge. ANd was surprised to find the dining hall unlocked.

"Hey," he said, seeing Dana as he came out of the kitchen with one of those pre-wrapped and mostly palatable sub sandwiches.

[Dana Lawrence]

"Hello," Dana says, "Hungry?"

[Alex Carpenter]

"Nah, I just heard that the food here amplifies your power. SO I figured I should get some while I could," Alex said straight-faced.

[Dana Lawrence]

"Oh," Dana says, glancing down at her cookie. She sets it aside carefully.

[Alex Carpenter]

"It was a joke. Sorry," Alex said, sitting down across from her.

[Dana Lawrence]

Dana shakes her head, "It is not a problem. I was just confused."

Picking the cookie back up she takes a bite.

"Having trouble sleeping?"

[Alex Carpenter]

"Yeah, they stuck me with some guy that snores like a chainsaw," Alex griped "How about you?"

[Dana Lawrence]

"I am a chronic insomniac," Dana says, "Which is not much of a problem when you have your own room, but with roommates it becomes problematic."

[Alex Carpenter]

"I... can see how that might be a problem," Alex admitted. "So you don't get tired, or you just can't sleep?"

[Dana Lawrence]

"It is purely psychological," Dana says, "Not part of my mutation, if that is what you are asking."

[Alex Carpenter]

"That sucks," he said. "So what do you usually do all night, then?"

[Dana Lawrence]

"I read a lot," Dana says, "Usually I wander around. Take long walks. That sort of thing."

[Alex Carpenter]

"Well, I guess that at least there should be more to do here," Alex reasoned. "Do you pass out eventually?"

[Dana Lawrence]

"I will eventually fall asleep," Dana says, "No one can stay awake forever."

[Alex Carpenter]

"Well, technically you could," Alex reasoned. "I saw a show about a guy who stopped being able to sleep, they couldn't even sedate him. Ended up not being pretty, though, so I wouldn't want to try it."

[Dana Lawrence]

"I do not think I would either," Dana says, "How do you feel about the Institute so far, Mr. Carpenter?"

[Alex Carpenter]

"Seems all right. Kind of sucks to get a taste and then head home to be bored all summer, but that's life, i guess."

[Dana Lawrence]

"I suppose it is," Dana says.
