"Oh yeah. my brother went here, and my sister is still here, a couple grades ahead. I'm really excited, I hope I can do as well as they did!"

"Oh really? That's cool!" she said. "I dunno. Part of me is really excited to get away from my three little brothers, but another part of me is really going to miss them."

"Yeah, that's true," she smiled. "And it's not like it's hard to video chat these days. Still. Kinda weird to think about being away from my family for so long, you know? Other than like, a few weeks visiting grandparents, and one girl scout camping trip."

They arrived at the basketball court, a fairly unremarkable-looking one (though quite well-maintained) at that.

"Do you get along with your sister?"

"Have you met the people you're rooming with yet?" she asked, losing interest in the search and pulling out her phone and responding to the roughly ten texts she'd received over the course of their walk. "I haven't even looked to see their names yet. Hell, I don't even know who I'm staying with for this orientation thing."

"No, not yet," he said, finding a seat on one of the spectator stands. "I have no idea who I'm staying with either.. I guess I'll meet them when I get back to my room for the evening."

he looked at her phone for a moment, curious, before turning back to look around the campus.

Curious to see why reaction she would get from a kid like Tommy, she kept texting intermittently and then nonchalantly remarked, "Maybe they'll make a mistake and stick us together."

Haley gazed into Tommy's eyes, staying very close to him. The breeze occasionally wafted her perfume--something light and sweet and wonderful--towards Tommy's nose.

Finally she stepped back and started looking around. "I dunno, Tommy. I'm not seeing a secret spot for a jet to come up, what about you?"

From an apparent crack in the pavement, a substance not unlike toothpaste squeezed from a tube began to extrude out in a pale noodle, piling upon itself.

The pile of pale noodley stuff started to meld together, before it resolved into a humanoid shape. Shortly afterward, a blue and yellow uniform shaped itself around it.

"...look, all I'm saying is the hangar doors could use a leeeeeedle work," he said towards the ground, as if someone could hear.

Haley stood there, slack-jawed, staring at the guy who just ooze through a crack in the pavement.

Though she had powers, it was somehow very different seeing someone else do something amazing and seemingly impossible.
