Swimmin' with sharks

[Zeryn]

It turned out that no, nothing disagreed with sharks more than being teleported. So Zeryn finally succumbed to the inevitable fact that they really, really needed to get out and calm down.

So after prepping the pool (he had NO idea how people swam in water with so many chemicals in it), he found himself skimming the bottom of it slowly, the half dozen small sharks swimming around him as he gently kept them corralled in case of other people coming in, all the while petting them and getting them calmed down.

[Violet Salu]

Violet walked into the pool a bit timidly, feeling ridiculous. She was wearing a one-piece swimming suit and currently made of what looked like concrete.

She hated feeling exposed like this with how she looked, but there had been something she had really wanted to try.

She smiled and waved at Zeryn before stopping at the edge of the pool. Glancing down she saw dark shapes moving in the water.

"...This place is weird."

[Zeryn]

Zeryn floated to the surface (or rather, made the currents boost him to the surface). And as he did, the sharks followed him, little dorsal fins splitting the surface of the water. "Good evening," he said, smiling pleasantly to her.

[Violet Salu]

"You have sharks in the pool," Violet says, "...Also, good evening."

You couldn't forget your manners over a little thing like sharks.

[Zeryn]

"Yes, I do," he said, reaching down to pet one of them as it brushed past him. "They were getting rather agitated after their travel here, so I decided it would be prudent to give them a bit more space to swim." He stood up, making the water's surface tension increase enough that he could walk over to greet her. "Hello," he said, offering her his hand. "I do not believe that I have met you yet. My name is Zeryn and I am the new resident advisor in the dormitories."

[Violet Salu]

"I'm Violet, Violet Salu," Violet says, shaking his hand while trying to avoid crushing it. Shifting compositions meant she was usually unaware of her strength, "And that almost makes sense. I think."

[Zeryn]

"If you know of an easier way to calm them, please, it would probably be a great help to me," Zeryn said, stepping back. If there had been anything hard about how she'd been squeezing, he hadn't noticed it. "Please, do not let them stop you. They're quite calm," he said as he sank back down into the water.

[Violet Salu]

"Doubt they could put a dent in me anyhow," Violet says with a smile. She approached the edge of the pool and took a deep breath before concentrating as she dipped her toe in the water.

Slowly her body changed, rippling with every movement as she became living water.

[Zeryn]

Zeryn cocked an eyebrow, watching with interest. "Very impressive," he said, his control of the water giving him an excellent sense of her transformation as she merged with the pool. "I do not believe I have heard of any who could change their form to include liquid compositions."

[Violet Salu]

"This is so weird," Violet says, looking nervous and excited at once, "I wonder if this means I could turn into the air or something? Or would I just evaporate?"

[Zeryn]

"You seem to be holding your form as a liquid," he said, walking closer as he studied her. "It certainly seems promising for you to be able to turn into air. May I...?" he asked, holding out his hand slightly, obviously asking if he can touch her shoulder.

[Violet Salu]

"What?" Violet asks, lost in thought, "Oh, yeah. Sure....just...be careful."

"And no funny business!"

[Zeryn]

"Naturally not," he said, carefully probing her shoulder with his fingers. "There is a natural progression to such matters, after all."

[Violet Salu]

Zeryn's hand could pass right through her shoulder, the water would ripple and flow around his hand with no real ill effect on Violet.

"Glad to see someone around here takes that stuff seriously."

[Zeryn]

"Well, it would hardly seem respectful for me to behave inapropriately. I have, after all, just met you," he said. "Also you are not yet eighteen, I am judging, so unless the rules for such things are different in the surface world, I would be flogged bloody and put into the shark nursery, or whatever the surface equivalent is, for an hour. I've heard it's a fairly unpleasant experience. Are you floating, or are your feet resting on the bottom of the pool?" he asked as a curious shark swam through her.Well, it would hardly seem respectful for me to behave inapropriately. I have, after all, just met you,

[Violet Salu]

"I think I'm floating?" Violet says, "It's hard to tell. Everything touching water feels kind of....fluid."

[Zeryn]

"Hm. Can you get out of the pool, then?"

[Violet Salu]

"Let me try," Violet says, pulling herself out of the water.

Apparently she could. Some sort of surface tension kept her intact and pissed off physicists everywhere.

[Zeryn]

"Quite remarkable," Zeryn said, studying her as she got out. "Able to touch things ,but unable to be touched. Quite useful."

[Violet Salu]

"I don't think its really that useful," Violet says, "Neat though."

[Zeryn]

He considered it. "Well, it certainly is a durable form, at least, if you can't be touched."

[Violet Salu]

"Yeah, but I don't think people will really appreciate me getting everything I touch wet."

[Zeryn]

"Do you?" he asked. "We don't know if things touching you will carry... part of you with them when they pass through you."

[Violet Salu]

"It wouldn't surprise me," Violet says, "When I'm stone, pieces break off all the time."

[Zeryn]

"True. So try," he said, gesturing toward, well, the rest of the room that wasn't the pool.

[Violet Salu]

Violet looked around, finally settling on the curved metal pole of a nearby ladder into the pool. She pressed her hand against it briefly, frowning.

"It's not passing through. That's weird."

[Zeryn]

"More important is knowing what will happen than understanding why on some occasions," Zeryn said, shrugging.

[Violet Salu]

"Yeah, but..." Violet frowns, "It's just weird."

"I guess it makes sense. I mean, that's probably why I can stand up and everything."

[Zeryn]

"Exactly," he said. "Perhaps it has to be you trying to touch something for it to work," he added thoughtfully.

[Violet Salu]

"Maybe that's it," Violet agrees, "Try throwing something at me."

[Zeryn]

Zeryn looked around, not seeing anything to throw at her. Finally he got out, picked up a towel from the rack by the door, and threw it at her.

[Violet Salu]

The towel sunk in just below the surface of her skin and floated there.

"Okay. That feels weird," Violet says, grabbing the edge of the towel and pulling it out.
