Issue 1 Downtime

Onyx was working in Mutant Town.

Since the place had a tendency to get attacked every other week a lot of buildings ended up broken down or abandoned.

While she had been wandering around London, Onyx had happened upon an old bar that had been practically obliterated during an attack.

For the past couple days she'd snuck out and began fixing it up. Removing debris and doing small repairs.

She didn't really have a plan. There was no endgame here. She was just happy to keep busy for a few hours each day.

Currently she was inside, working on fixing the floors. She had bought building supplies with some of her allowance from Victoria and with her abilities the work was actually going surprisingly quickly. Onyx assumed that eventually someone would tell her to stop or reclaim the building, but for now it was pleasant work and she enjoyed it.

((May 17th))

The building was starting to look like a respectable pub.

The debris had been cleared out and Onyx had managed to get most of the major repairs done. She had even restocked some of the liquor and glasses although the taps weren't currently connected.

Onyx hummed happily to herself as she polished the bar with a rag.

The cat wandered in the open door, sniffing curiously.

Onyx glances over at the cat briefly before heading behind the bar. She returns with a dish full of cream and places it on the floor.

The cat walked over, sniffed the cream, and began to lap it up.

Onyx smiles happily at the cat.

"What do you think I should do, small cat?"

The cat purred, and butted her head against Onyx's hand.

Onyx scratches the cat behind the ears gently, "I tried to raise a cat once, y'know."

"...It didn't end well."

The cat looked at Onyx quizzically, but didn't stop purring.

"Not that I did anything wrong!" Onyx says quickly, "We were just not allowed pets."

"I suppose things are different now."

The cat purred louder, and hopped up onto Onyx's lap.

Onyx strokes the cat idly.

"I guess I am like you now," Onyx says, "Free."

"...At least you seem very happy," Onyx muses, "That is a good omen, I suppose."

The cat meowed, and butted Onyx under the chin.

Onyx laughs, "You are very cute."

"It looks like you made a new friend." Alyson said as she walked in.

Onyx smiles happily, "I think she likes me."

"She's a cutie." Alyson said, scratching the cat's ears. "The place is looking good." she added, glancing around.

Onyx nods, "It was quite a bit less work then I thought."

"It won't be too long before you can open."

Onyx laughs, "What would I do with a bar of my own?"

"Give people alcohol in exchange for money?"

"You know what I mean," Onyx says with a soft smile.

"Well, you don't want to go to school, right?"

"I have already received a full education," Onyx agrees.

"In that case, why not run this place?" Alyson said "If nothing else, it'd be something to do."

Onyx pauses, "I...will think about it."

"Ok." Alyson said "No need to decide right now."

Onyx nods, "Did you have any plans for today?"

"Just spending time with you."

"Well, then I am at your disposal, ma'am," Onyx says with a smile, sounding amused.

"Do you have anything that needs doing around here?" Alyson asked, still petting the cat.

"I don't suppose you know anything about wiring," Onyx says, "The lights are still having trouble."

"I know that its a good idea to call an electrician." Alyson said

"Well, yes, I suppose that would be the obvious answer," Onyx says with a giggle.

"Thats me. Good at heavy lifting and obvious suggestions."

"Would you like a drink?" Onyx asks.

"That sounds like a good idea."

Onyx walks over behind the bar, "What would you like?"

"Rum and Coke?"

Onyx returns with a drink, smiling, "Here you are, ma'am."

"Don't worry. I've started you a tab."
