Issue 1 Downtime

Bobby is under the hood of one of the cars, getting a few final touches ready for the Monday pickup.

It's relatively quiet, being the weekend.

"I brought your cat back." Kyra said, indicating the struggling, yowling ball of feline fury that was floating behind her.

Phobe didn't have to pretend to be scared and furious. She knew that she'd taken a risk, sneaking into the dorm of a telepath. and now she was trying to keep her thoughts non-verba; hoping that Kyra was too pissed off to notice that she was a shapeshifter.

"Hmm?"

Bobby Elongated his neck up, looking over.

"Hmm? The cat? Where did you find her?"

He smiled, glad to see both of them again for different reasons.

"She was in my closet." Kyra said, sounding annoyed "Making political statements on my shoes. After she'd used my favorite coat as a scratching post."

Bobby wiped off his hands, and stood up to take the wandering feline from Kyra's possession.

"I know she gets around, but wow!"

"Yeah, tell me about it." Kyra said, releasing the cat once Bobby had her.

Bobby, not seeing a reason not to, put her down of the floor of the garage.

"I'm sorry about that.. She's not really mine, she just pokes around for food and skritches."

Once she was on the floor, Pheobe took off like a shot.

"What got into her?" Kyra asked wonderingly.

"I've never seen her act like that, scrambling to get away.. And getting into your place and ruining clothes? Wow. Maybe she wasn't the cat I thought she was."

"When she saw me, she was really pissed off too. Scared, but mostly pissed off. I couldn't tell why, I mean, she's a cat, but it was almost like she was jealous."

"Jealous, hmm?" He said with a smile. "Maybe she saw us the other night, through the window."

Sighing, he went over to his desk, and started looking up Veterinarians on the computer.

"Look, she's not technically mine, but if you need some help replacing the damages.."

"Its fine." Kyra said "It isn't your fault that a stray cat flipped out, and getting everything cleaned up won't be hard, just tedious."

Bobby nodded, pulling up some info on local vets.

"Well, hopefully it's just a one time thing. I'd hate to see her become a serial defiler."

Bobby looked her way, toying with a sparkplug, causing an arc of electric current to dance across his fingertips.

"... Forget I said anything just now."

Kyra walked over, and squatted down near where Bobby was sitting. "Why won't you look at me?" she asked.

Bobby turned her way, still not looking her directly in the eyes.

"Because this can't last... Daniel will come back, and you will go be with him. And I'll stay here. And lives will go on.."

Kyra sighed "Bobby, as much as it kills me to say it, they aren't coming back. And even if they do....what I have, what I had with Daniel was like a forest fire. Or a train wreck. I can't promise that this will be forever, but I can promise that I'll try. Because I want something that isn't such a rollercoaster."

"Neither am I." Kyra said "I mean, that wasn't how I was raised. I was always not quite good enough, even in my own family. And now...I don't have as much family as I used too."

"I hope you don't mind a little bit of auto grease occasionally. I do clean up nice, though."
