Issue 1 Downtime

Ryan and Rachel arrived at the restaurant in a very comfortable car Ryan had hired for the occasion. Buttoning his jacket one handed as he stood up out of the car, he turned around and offered Rachel his hand to help her out. Chivalry wasn't dead, after all.

Rachel only rolled her eyes a little as she took Ryan's hand and let him help her out of the car.

"You know," Ryan mused, knowing better than to offer his arm as they headed inside, "That little look you give me when you think I'm being too polite makes it all worth it."

"What do you mean?" Rachel asked, slipping her hand into his.

"Oh, nothing," Ryan said, smirking a little, as he held the door open for her. He turned his attention briefly to the host to give his name so that he could find the reservation.

Rachel followed Ryan into the restaurant, and waited to be shown to their table.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was thick enough that you could feel it. It was one of the rare restaurants that, in addition to its superbly rated menu, still employed live music and maintained a dance floor toward the end of dinner hours. After being shown to their seats, Rachel and Ryan were given menus and told that their server would be with them shortly.

Ryan looked around for a moment. "Somehow, I expected it to be bigger," he joked.

"The food looks pretty good." Rachel said neutrally, looking at her menu.

"The food, supposedly, is exquisite. And we'll have a while to enjoy it before the band gets here to start playing." He glanced over the menu, idly reaching across the table and squeezing her hand.

Rachel smiled at him, which wasn't unusual, but she blushed a bit as she squeezed his hand back, which was.

Ryan smiked, squeezing her hand. "So, should I press my luck and be overwhelmingly male and order for you?" he joked.

"You mean you'd expect me to actually select my own food?" Rachel replied, blinking in wide-eyed astonishment. "Next you'll tell me I've got to cut my own meat."

"Well yeah. It just sort of makes sense... if I've got the money and it's not going to make me go broke, and it will make you go broke, I throw it in. Honestly, I don't even like that there is a distinction of 'my' and 'your' money if we're going to be in this for the long run. Which, naturally, we are."
